Directions by road:
From the M25 junction 29 take the A127 Southend Arterial Road towards Basildon. After about 6 miles you’ll pass the odd ‘Fortune of War’ junction (40 limit and two half roundabouts). The junction you need is half a mile after this – the junction with the A176 (You’ll see the famous Basildon sign on the right). Cross under the 127 then take the A176 (Upper Mayne) towards Basildon. After half a mile you’ll come to a roundabout with B&Q on the left – take the first exit left into A1235 Cranes Farm Road, then turn left at the lights into Miles Gray Road and immediately right into Crompton Close. Follow the straight section of this road – the Safestore office carpark is on the right as soon as the road bears left. Press number 3 on the intercom and, assuming that I’ve worked out how to use my special door-opening device, I’ll let you in. Time from the M25: 14 minutes according to the AA.

Directions by rail:
The office is 1.8 miles from Basildon railway station. It is perfectly walkable – cross the town centre to Gloucester Park and then along the edge of the park up towards B and Q and along Cranes Farm Road. Quite hard to give precise directions though – it might be easiest to get a taxi if you don’t know where you’re going.
