Cartoon: Ordination

Hello everyone. Another cartoon after a few days break. We were in Exeter – let me know if you want to see my holiday photos of a car park.

Today’s cartoon is entitled ‘Ordination’. Click here for the high resolution version for reuse. Once again this one can be found in the book The Exciting World of Churchgoing.

As far as ordination goes I have no particular wisdom. But here’s a short paragraph on non-ordination from an interview with Ronald Blythe in tomorrow’s Church Times. I quite liked it.

But he resists ordination himself. A Dean of St Paul’s, Alan Webster, tried to persuade him to become a priest, as did a Bishop of St Edmundsbury & Ipswich, Leslie Brown. “I couldn’t get them to understand that it wasn’t my role,” he says. “I actually think the laity is enormously important. The laity means the people of God.”

Cartoon: The church café

Today’s cartoon is The church café, once again taken from book 3, ‘The exciting world of churchgoing’ (info on books here). See this page on the main CartoonChurch site for the high resolution version and information about reusing.

Well, that’s five cartoons this week. I’ll be back with another batch of five from the middle of next week.

The ten week course

Today’s cartoon is called ‘the ten week course‘.

Here’s a thing: I’ve never completed a ten week course, though I have assisted vaguely with one. Some of my friends swear by them, so I can’t argue with that.

I’d say more, but it’s a busy day today. Thanks for visiting!

Cartoon: The PCC

the PCC

Today’s cartoon is The PCC (Parochial Church Council – it’s an Anglican thing). You can find it in the ‘latest cartoons‘ section of CartoonChurch.com along with all of the latest ones I’ve posted. There are other PCC cartoons if these particularly interest you: 1, 2. If you want to reuse any of these diagrams click the ‘using the cartoons’ link up there to the right.

It is many years since I have been on a PCC, so you could question whether I know anything about the subject. But I know people that do.

Cartoon: The sound desk operator

This is the first of ten cartoons I’m posting over the next few weeks from the book ‘The exciting world of churchgoing‘, ie not the latest book, but the one before that.

I have never, in my life, been a sound desk operator or the person who makes the powerpoint slides go forwards and backwards at the appropriate moments. This is because I live in my own dream-world and my mind is not usually on the task at hand, meaning that there would be all manner of audible and visual mishaps.

Click here if you’d like to use this cartoon in your own publications, or if you’d like to see the rest of my church cartoons. (I am now putting the full cartoon here on my blog each time, but giving the CartoonChurch link for those who’d like to reuse or explore further.)

Interview. Minor aside – I did this interview with Aslan books, a new Christian book chain in the south west of England. I should say that I was, in hindsight, a little more down on ‘church’ than I should have been. Just the mood I was in on that day – sorry.

This the third of three that I’ve posted from my series in Youthwork magazine. As per usual information about reuse of this drawing is on the how you can use the cartoons page, which can be found at any time of day or night by clicking the link in the menu at the top there.

Cartoon: Ecumenical relations

bring and share lunch

See the full version of this cartoon: Ecumenical relations.

This is another one from Youthwork magazine.

I quite like the bring and share lunch image (above) that forms a part of this cartoon. I have considered adding a range of simple images like this (I suppose one might call them clipart) to my site for parish magazine editors who would like an image without text to help illustrate an article. If this might be of interest to you please let me know.

Cartoon: Disposal

disposal

Click here for the full version: Disposal – how to get rid of resources your predecessor has painstakingly gathered.

This cartoon originally appeared in Youthwork magazine, and is one of small batch of three youth work ones that I will be posting over the next few days. I did cartoons for Youthwork for about late 2009 to late 2011 but I’m not doing them now. I did some quite good work I think, but let’s just say that no one really noticed when they finished all good things come to an end.

As per usual you can republish this and any other cartoons from this site. Find out how to get a licence for your church or yourself here.

Cartoon: Holidaymakers

holidaymakers

See the full-sized and complete version here: Holidaymakers

This, the 30th cartoon to be uploaded to the site over the last three and a half weeks, is taken from book 3, The Exciting World of Churchgoing. It would be ideally suited to anyone who is looking for a cartoon for a July or August edition of a church magazine. See also ‘Summer Holidays‘.

Cartoon: The liturgical pause

liturgical pause

Click here to see the full version of ‘The liturgical pause’

This cartoon is from book 1, The Dave Walker Guide to the Church, and was originally published in the Church Times.

You’ll be glad to know that the pace of cartoon posting has slowed somewhat today. There will be probably only be two cartoons.

Tomorrow there will be [shock horror] no new cartoons. The day has been set aside for announcements.

Six cartoon Tuesday

Yesterday was Six cartoon Monday, in which I posted six new cartoons on the CartoonChurch site. Today, I have decided (imaginatively) to name the day ‘Six cartoon Tuesday’. I will be posting a number of cartoons – you may or may not be able to guess how many. Don’t worry, this pattern will not continue, but I wanted, for various reasons, to get a decent number of new pictures up on the website fairly rapidly.

Here are some hints of today’s six cartoons, which this time are taken from book 1, The Dave Walker Guide to the Church. I’ll post the links to the full cartoons at intervals during the day at the end of this post and on Twitter.

Six cartoon Monday

Today marks a step up in the cartoon posting rate – ‘Six cartoon Monday’ I’ll call it. I’ll post six cartoons on CartoonChurch.com gradually through the day. I’ve posted six extracts below – enthusiasts and those with too much time on their hands will perhaps be able to tell which cartoons they are. Once again they are all taken from the book ‘My Pew‘, available from booksellers and all good branches of Amazon.

I’ll post the links to the cartoons themselves at the end of this post and on Twitter.
