Some might remember my church kitchen cartoon – see that link or the end of this post. Canterbury Press sell a tea towel of a redrawn cleaned-up version.
Here is a splendid real-life example of a church kitchen, kindly sent to me today by Nathan Larkin. Yes, those are photographs showing exactly what needs to be on each shelf. There is another picture below with more views, including instructions for the stacking and handle-direction of the church mugs.
Can anyone beat this church kitchen signage? Feel free to get in touch, and I will publish any good ones I get sent on the blog.

Door cartoon. Cartoon about doors. Not much more I can add in terms of a description. This is a new drawing that I have just done that has not appeared anywhere else. You are the first to see it, except for CW who described it as ‘strange’.
Progress update: Today has been and continues to be a drawing day. I am working on two important diagrams. One is ready to be inked and on the other one I am still battling with the layout.
Question for groups: Shall we have some tea now?

Another cartoon from the last-but-one book, The exciting world of churchgoing (link to info on books). You can find the high resolution version for licence holders here.
Every time I upload a new cartoon I add some tags to the page to help searchers find what they are looking for. Today’s tags are ‘chattering’ and ‘nattering’.
Have a good Saturday, whatever you’re doing.

I have now rescanned yesterday’s picture, drawn on the 6.06 from Fenchurch Street, as a black and white image and uploaded it to the main CartoonChurch site here: Wave cartoon. Subscribers can download and use in the usual way.
I am aware that posting the same drawing on two consecutive days goes goes completely against the spirit of daily blogging. I will aim to add something else later in the day to rectify this.

Image: notebook drawing. I have, for some reason, called it ‘Wave’.
So, one month of daily blogging has taken place. I rarely achieve the targets I set, so am going to allow myself a brief moment of being pleased. There have been days when I’ve sat for quite a while trying to think of something, and some of it has been (let’s be honest) complete rubbish, but if you’re OK with that then I am too.
Of course, I blog because I want people to see my cartoons and (let’s be honest (again)) I want to be noticed. But a significant part of the motivation is that it helps me. A kind of therapy, more pleasant/achievable than the commonly recommended remedies – pills, or talking to someone. Forcing myself to create something opens the gates somehow, and stops me just consuming the internet without creating. Which is another way of saying that just sitting reading Twitter often makes me miserable.
Hopefully I can do another month, but I wouldn’t bet more than you can afford to lose. That said there are some quite interesting things lined up for February, so let’s hope for the best.
Update: the high resolution version of this cartoon is now available to licence holders here.

It is time for a few more cartoons to be added to the site I think – this one is the first of five from The Exciting World of Churchgoing, and then perhaps I will post some from Peculiar Goings On.
You can find the high resolution version of this cartoon here: Beating the crowds. If you’d like to use it in your church magazine then I offer a very reasonable licence scheme that enables you to do just that.

These are some figures I drew for the publicity for the Bloxham Festival of faith and Literature which takes place from the 15-17 February 2013. The website and other publicity contains the coloured-in versions, along with a very yellow drawing I did of the school buildings. As per usual someone else does my colouring as I am inept on the computer. Do have a look at the website if you might be in reach of Oxfordshire that weekend, as it should be very good. Sadly I won’t be going as it clashes with a long-standing arrangement. I should mention that it is organised by Hymns Ancient and Modern, the company that pays for quite a lot of the things I do. It is sponsored by the Church Times and Greenbelt. There is an account of last year’s festival on the Church Times website, here.

This is a one minute sketch for a commission I am doing. Please excuse the geography, various missing seas, etc.
Christianity teaches us about loving our neighbours as ourselves. Who are our neighbours in this interconnected world which we have made for ourselves? I find, quite often, when in church, that in sermons and intercessions we rarely consider or take any interest in those beyond the Basildon borough council boundaries. Occasionally we might venture down the A127 and keep going until we get to Westminster, but that is about as far as it goes.
Yes, I know, I should volunteer to do sermons and intercessions myself if I think I could do them better.

Notebook drawing, February 2012
I have all sorts of scribbles like this in all sorts of notebooks. This drawing is to do with the fact that although we are better connected than we have ever been, this often means we feel less connected than we have ever been. This will, I’m sure, be nonsensical to many – please ignore and continue with your activities.
