Welcome to my website – I hope you enjoy the cartoons and my blog. A brief introduction: I’m a freelance cartoonist and website editor living in Essex, UK. I draw a weekly cartoon, ‘The Dave Walker Guide to the Church’, for the Church Times and do occasional freelance work for other people. My cartoons have been published book form.
The place to find my new work online is the Cartoon Blog, where I post all additions to any of my sites along with any other matters that interest me. I can also be found in 140 character form on Twitter, and I have a CartoonChurch page on Facebook.
People often ask how I came to be doing this. I started drawing cartoons whilst studying theology in the mid 1990s. For a number of years it was really only friends who saw my drawings, but when I discovered the internet (1999 or so) I started putting some of them online. The ‘Guide to the Church’ series appeared in the Church Times in 2005. My most interesting cartooning assignment was in the summer of 2008, when I was invited to be the ‘cartoonist in residence‘ role at the Lambeth Conference, where I sat in a tent and drew diagrams for the bishops.
I have a new web site, The Dave Walker Guide to…, which is where I will be posting my non-church-themed material. There isn’t a huge amount there yet, but watch this space. See also The dullest blog in the world, incredibly popular for a short time in 2003, when it was featured in the New York Times and the Economist. We Blog Cartoons is a site containing free cartoons for bloggers.
CartoonChurch.com contains cartoons and resources for churches and anyone else interested in my church-themed material. This includes:
- Cartoons to use in parish magazines, church newsletters, other publications or elsewhere. You can browse the cartoons freely by clicking here, and this page explains how you can use them and how much it will cost.
- Cartoon worksheets for use with a youthgroup, at a homegroup, as an icebreaker or in any other situation you can think of. This section has the details.
