When I read your post yesterday & you spoke of schooling and breakfasts I thought I'd mention two small groups I support. One is The Porridge Project http://kasiisiporridge.org/ I pay a SO for two children to have breakfast everyday.

The other is Tanzania Rural Revival http://tanzaniaruralrevival.org.uk/ where my SO pays for two children to go to school each year including the cost of their uniform (no uniform, no school)

I think it's small things like this which allow anyone to make a difference. Thank you for sharing your trip with us.

I so envy you! Having spent nearly three weeks in very rural Kenya, staying with members of Mothers' Union and seeing all the things you are describing, I have a great desire to return. However, my photos of that time also show many happy smiling faces despite the tremendous hardship. My overwhelming impression is of Mothers' Union members especially, and the hundreds who filled the churches we visited each Sunday, who know a joy in the Lord which is sadly misssing in many people in the UK. They give thanks, genuinely and continually for all God's blessings - and we have so much to learn from them!

Great post Dave, and so lovely to see happy smiling faces amidst the hardship. A big improvement on reports I've seen in years past through Mothers' Union. When my family and I were near Kampala and Lowero for a week in 2006 I wasn't allowed to travel north as it still wasn't safe enough, so I sort of envy you a bit. I remember well the transport issues too - some of the overloaded bikes and lorry's are simply amazing/ly dangerous!

If people want a small amount of background on the LRA and some of the earlier issues, here's some info on Kitgum (nearer the South Sudanese border than you are I think, but my geography is bit dodgy) http://www.muwinchester.org.uk/international/kitgum-northern-uganda/wounds-for-healing/ and http://www.muwinchester.org.uk/international/kitgum-northern-uganda/

Let us know if you meet Mothers' Union members out there.

Stay safe, be well, God Bless.
