Craft / sport week

Pottery choices
I’m spending a few days doing things other than drawing all day or adding bold tags to web pages. One of the planned activities is pottery, and pictured above (and below) are a small number of the possible items. Any requests? If all else fails I will make a small statuette of a golfer. In addition, various non-bicycle-related sporting activities are planned. Yes – this is unusual.

If you’d like to follow progress you can do so on Twitter via the following hashtag: #craftsportweek

Teapot – what wonderful possibilities for 360 degree decorating! (+a beverage to pour into the Cycling Mugs!)

Combined sport and pottery, throwing the clay?

Looks fun – you decorating the pottery or actually making the items from clay? If latter you should remove your shoes, draw a picture of it, and then recreate it in clay. That was what I had to do on my very first pottery lesson. Result was hideous.

Wonderful idea but hate to burst your bubble of your artistic ambitions.

Pottery is great. I used it for my “mental health” days as well but the items in your glass cabinet might be master class standard – unless you’ve done it before. Usually get started making coil pots out of long lengths of clay before you’re let loose on the wheel – not as primary school standard as it may sound. Can make some very beautiful pots and plates and get a really good feel for the clay. But not the stuff that miniature golfers are made from.

Flat or slightly curved plate with an interesting glaze. Maybe a place to start.

Good luck anyway. Great idea. Something concrete made in a definite space of time.Beginning-middle-end. Bit of laughter. Job done. Beats the frustration of waiting indefinitely on the birth of a cartoon, or a piece of writing.

God bless the work and the play

Please don’t do the one of a man sitting on the toilet.
Have never potted anything myself, but when my daughter was young I used to take her to a ‘craft cafe’ where parents could enjoy a cup of tea and a piece of cake whilst their offspring painted un-fired bits of pottery, usually plates, for later firing and collection and theoretically, use.
The parents often ‘helped’ the kids though, because it was so therapeutic…

Thanks for comments everyone, and please forgive lack of replies. Internet time rather limited today. Pottery is being made from moulds, see latest post.
