The heating system

the heating system

Time for a another cartoon I think. The heating system has been added to the new cartoons section of the website, and is available for licence holders to use in the usual ways. The cartoon is taken from ‘The Exciting World of Churchgoing’, and was originally published in the Church Times.

Normally I’d add a cheery anecdote about church heating, or comment on my current temperature, but such additions are a luxury for the lunchtime blogger. Back to work Walker!

excellent, have copied it to the Prior of my favourite monastery. They’ve also had problems with they’re water tank – a bit of an issue if you have guests! I’m sure if you took a few retreats at monastic houses there would be a wealth of ideas for future cartoons. The monks I know are utterly mad.

Hi Dave.. I have only recently come across your website and I find it very entertaining and creative. I’m learning in a really fun way. Seems like the mood of the people of the church will depend on two things. The quality of the preaching and the heating system.

Every church I know has a thermometer that never goes above the too cold mark. Is it the thermometer that doesn’t work, or the heating?

By contrast, our office has just reached the 27 degrees mark, we are moving towards a bit of gentle dozing (or maybe going home).

Totally accurate description of our church throughout a calender year. However as I might be speaking when the temperature is optimum the chances of interested and happy are somewhat optimistic.

  5. Liz from the sewing room says:

I am shocked by the concept of the heating in a church ever being “just right”. I go to various churches one way and another and the heating is never ever just right.

the vestry is always (even in a heatwave) like an icehouse; church is plain cold unless a heatwave is on, then the sidepeoples almost have to mop up the puddles under the pews. My cassock + surplice is a blessing in winter time adn the opposite during summer… This is a very much “spot on” cartoon!
