The mobile cartoonist

mobile cartoonist

Warning: technical post. Some may not find it of interest.

Yes, this is a picture of someone taking a picture of a cartoon. Don’t ask how many takes this took.

One of my aims in life (I haven’t set my sights that high) is to be able to post cartoons on this blog from anywhere. I am fortunate in having the technology that should enable such a feat to take place, but am continually blighted by technical problems and ineptitude. So any advice would be welcomed.

I have a mobile telephone and a tablet which can both ‘scan’ cartoons – ie take pictures and then turn them into reasonable black and white line drawings. The problem is getting the image onto this WordPress website. I use Flickr to store images, or I FTP them straight to the site, but have found the following problems:

Can anyone think of a way that I can do this – perhaps a better method / app than I have been using.

Could you edit on the ipad, pass to the android (bluetooth?) to then use that to post to Flickr? Not elegant and may not be effective as I’m not particularly technical.

I’m having no problems with Flickr’s own app on iPhone. Is it iPhone only and not iPad?

  3. Dave says:

Vicarvernon. I am aiming to keep things simple if I can. But yes, that could be a way.

Trevor. Thank you – a few people have told me this. Apparently Flickr uploading was down tonight, but I’m not sure the error I had was down to that. Will try again.

Doesn’t wordpress have it’s own App? I’ve not used it so forgive me if it’s no good for uploading images.

With respect to getting the images up to flickr, if their own app is no good why not try IFTTT.com so you can send the image as an email attachment and have IFTTT automatically publish it to flickr (or possibly even wordpress?)

    David,

Thank you. Yes, it does, but I find uploading images directly via WordPress never works very well, hence preferring to use Flickr or upload direct via ftp.

Yes, I do think IFTTT needs to be involved somewhere. Just haven’t quite worked out the details. Getting the image to the right dimensions seems to be the trickiest bit.

You can email pics straight to flickr

    http://www.flickr.com/account/uploadbyemail/

this should work from your ipad shouldnt it? says you can use ‘special codes’ to add tags which sounds very exciting.

    Steve,

Thanks – yes, I will try this, particularly as I think you can email straight to a blog. Though if the image size is right I will be amazed – but you never know.

I’m all for a special code.
