Three-decker pulpit with ear trumpets

The church in Whitby has been in the news today because the graveyard has had a landslide. I thought I’d post a couple of photos taken there this summer – in particular the three-decker pulpit with associated ear trumpets. The photos below explain all.

Wow! Now that is a pulpit. Our church had a rather smaller but rather sweet double-decker, which was removed in the great reordering of 1974 (the low point of English church architecture).

In my 8 years as a Reader I have yet to actually preach from a pulpit.

    Old joke about ear trumpets.

The churchwarden says to the vsiiting speaker “you will have to speak up the agnostics here are terrible”
