Punctuality cartoon

punctuality version too small to see

You won’t be able to see this unless your eyesight is remarkably good, so I’d suggest clicking here for a larger version.

Uninteresting paragraph
Sorry to be late posting this punctuality cartoon (see earlier promise of one a day). The delay had nothing at all to do with the fact that I was getting into a awful tangle with my tax return. Perhaps one year I will not leave it until January. In fact have plans to contact someone in approximately June to help me with it. Next week I am going to telephone the H&M Revenue (they also run the shops) to see whether I can have some of my money back.

In our church I’d say the split of people is:
    Grumpy early 5%
    Cheerful early 5%
    Just in time 40%
    Guilty late 35%
    Shameless late 15%

How does that compare with other churches.
PS it is getting worse – late-coming is definitely infectious

  2. Hilda says:

Parishioners’ lateness is almost always learned behaviour. If the service always begins on time, the people arrive in time. If you occasionally go up late, the spectrum of lateness blooms.

This looks suspiciously like a PCC. Tardiness is very tempting as is early departure!

  4. Phill says:

At university, we had a lot of trouble with lateness. Our main meeting was supposed to start at 7:30 PM on Tuesdays… it generally started about 7:40-7:45.

We did try to ensure we started on time to encourage people not to arrive late, unfortunately that didn’t really work: it’s difficult to start when the person leading the meeting / people in the music group / person doing the talk etc aren’t there.

  5. Peter says:

When I was on the PCC, one of our churchwardens was always late, she was also always the one to stay and chat longest. This would have been fine, but for the nature of the driveway, last one in had to be first one out or the rest of us couldn’t leave.

I quickly learnt to park on the road.

Lateness by a hardcore of the PCC and committees is a real shame. I’m afraid I’ve come to the conclusion that I have other things I’d rather do than sit around making small talk, while waiting for latecomers, when I could be putting my son to bed / having a meal with my wife / studying / working * delete as applicable

I do Tax Returns. I speak plain English. I cope with clients who hate the whole process (most of them). I even cope with Christian creatives (well a couple – does that count as specialism??) If you want to know more contact me
PS I don’t recommend assuming HMRC will get it right. I know how often they get it wrong. Put it this way, some of them seem to know a lot less about the tax system than you do!
