Cassock cartoon

Cassock cartoon - just the first picture. You need the whole thing really.

If you’ve ever wondered what clergy keep under their cassock then my cassock cartoon may help. Click that link for the full version. This picture is from The Exciting World of Churchgoing, the paper version of the book of the same name.

I have you, the commenters on this blog, to thank for this cartoon. On 8 January 2008 I asked for help on the subject, and was overwhelmed with good ideas. So thank you.

Shouldn’t the two pictures be labelled “Outward Sign” and “Inward and Spiritual Grace”?

  2. Liz from the sewing room says:

I laughed out loud at this. he clearly has everything he needs. A Christian youth worker I know has all sorts of odd things in her handbag. I wonder how male clergy who dont have cassocks deal with all this stuff. Carrying of handbags would probably be frowned upon amongst male clergy.

  3. Squirrel says:

Err, where is the pocket for peppermints and lemon sweets?

  4. ramtopsrac says:

    Want one!
Actually I have one, with even less button’s (I noted that there were not 39), but being a Reader mine does not have the interesting and useful pockets on the inside :-( which makes subbing for a vicar because of our vacancy even more tricky!
