I am very upset that you revealed the sticker scheme to the 80%. I am now concerned that some of them will want to do more work to get more of our stickers. The trickle might become a flood if they found out that the special stickers are redeemable in heaven! Great cartoon!

Our clever minister has gradually changed this, so that the load of the 20% is lightened, and the 80% have interesting roles which they enjoy as well. Everyone now feels they have something to offer. And no-one is stuck doing something because they volunteered 20 years ago, we are expected to not continue in a role for more than 6-8 years. And cliques are a thing of the past. Plus, we get to go on training courses to learn how to do the things we are doing if needed.

But it used to be like the cartoon, and every other church I have been in has been like the cartoon.

Mmm.. I'm not sure the 20% are looking for holiness brownie points/badges/stickers. Mostly they're people who got dragged into doing something 20 years ago and haven't been able to find a way to say no..
