I now have the keys to the new office and will be moving some things in over the weekend. Here are some pictures of the office in its empty state. Warning: Those who find dull pictures uninteresting should look away now.

Above: Empty office. Note heater and powerpoints. The computing department will be on the left I think, and the drawing department on the right. The location of the filing department is still to be determined. It looks a bit dark – that is because the lights aren’t on, it was cloudy and the windows are tinted a bit.

I’ve been thinking for years about finding somewhere other than home to work, and it looks as if that is finally going to happen. Over the last few weeks the drive to be somewhere other than the third bedroom has intensified, and so I’ve been looking with renewed energy for an office to rent. The news is that this afternoon I have ‘reserved’ an office in an industrial estate here in the town of Basildon.
This doesn’t sound very exotic, but for me it is all rather exciting. I’ve got really quite a good deal on the unit, and it is an ‘easy in / easy out’ office, which means that I’m not committed to a long lease but can see how it goes on a trial basis. I can stay as little as 12 weeks if I choose before returning to the third bedroom or finding somewhere more to my liking if this doesn’t work for whatever reason.
The office is way bigger than I need – 250 square feet as compared with my current office at home which is 54 square feet. 54 square feet is a bit small given various boxes of cards, canvasses and materials that are currently cluttering up the house, but 100 would probably be plenty. I’m therefore going to need to think of something to do with the rest of the space. I’ve had a few ideas on Twitter this afternoon (thank you), but I’m thinking perhaps a big sofa so that visitors can come and watch me work (from the comfort of a big sofa). (Put SS14 3BB into your favourite journey planning website to find out how long it would take you.)
The office is attached to and run by ‘Safestore’ in Basildon, so if it all gets too much I can always put myself in storage for a while.

It has been far too long since the last update here hasn’t it? I’m now at Spring Harvest in Skegness, as you may have seen from the Church Times Blog where I’m doing some drawing and typing updates.
So, what have I been up to? Well, in the last few weeks every hour of every day (more or less) has been taken up completing my 2011 calendar. Here’s a tiny preview, which will probably make very little sense out of context:

I have to say that this calendar has been more effort than any of the others, but is the one I am most pleased with. I’d almost go as far as to say it could be the best set of diagrams I’ve ever done, but that might sound rather big-headed.
More information will be appearing at some point before too long. The calendar will be published by Canterbury Press in July – the official page is here – that isn’t the actual cover, they just have to put something there whilst waiting me to get my act together.
I’ll be back on this blog properly next week, when there should be some updates to the site and things like that. In the meantime please forgive a lack of response to e-mails and suchlike as I am busy being an enthusiastic Christian etc.
