My Church Times cartoon ‘The Secularists’ is now on the Guardian ‘Comment is Free’ site. Comments have been enabled, so I’m standing by with my reinforced flameproof overalls and a slight sense of apprehension.

One of the comments states that without religion people would be happier “ding [sic] their own thing”. Ding indeed. ‘Nuf said. Nothing to fear here, Dave. You are indeed a hero.

And the comments are full of atheists spending their time talking about God, or the non-existence of God…so they’re busily proving the truth of your cartoon as they seek to disprove it.

I’ve just given up reading comments on articles about religion on newspaper websites – they just seem to attract the same sort of comments over and over again!

Some interesting comments on the Grauniads website. It very Deridian of people to see what they want to see in your cartoon….
I am convinced that some secularist want to drive all religion/belief from the public square. It is not possible as we all believe something and that colous our thinking and judgement. Sometimes the truth spoke out, sometimes He remained silient as in front of Pilate. What should we do now?

Yep, you have drawn the usual comments but also some other more thoughtful comments. Well done.
There is a group of people out there who doggedly spam any forum they can find which mentions Christianity with the same few comments. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words.
I laughed out loud when I saw this in the Church Times and I’m sure it will have the same effect on others – and get your point across.
Dawkins has recently taken up charity in order to prove that he is as good as a Christian. Maybe he will take up cartooning next.

Love your work Dave. You just get better and better. Part of the joy in this cartoon is the bizarre responses elicited from the Grauniad readers.
