Dullest blog

Jon Birch has said kind things about the dullest blog in the world, a not-very-interesting project of mine from the 2003 era. Jon keeps a good blog over at the asbojesus with his cartoons and in-depth discussions and suchlike. He was talking about it all at Greenbelt but I unfortunately missed the talk owing to not remembering whether I knew about it or not.

A while or so ago I transferred the dullest blog to its own domain, the idea being that it would be easier to manage and I could get rid of all the spammy comments. I had planned to restart it, but lost interest. I have a whole suite (what a good word) of half-unstarted projects, of which this is one. Maybe, if I am struck by some sort of whim, I will restart it at some point.

Today I found that the dullest blog has its own group on Facebook. Good heavens. I thought everyone had forgotten about it. Anyway, I just joined the group.

So, I’m posting to tell you about a Facebook group I have joined. The dullest blog continues, just in a different form.

Of course, someone has stolen your “dullest blog” idea, a blog full of pointless and mundane posts.

    It’s called Twitter.

  2. Chas says:

Twitter has a new search function; if you search for wiblog, you come across a number of references to the dullest blog – some of them acknowledging that it was probably the world’s first microblog – you’re a pioneer – and should be rich and famous …

    Oh.

  4. jody says:

i used to be a twitterite, but then found that i wasn’t interested in it at all.

  5. Matt says:

If you start it again, it will be less dull…

  6. Sam P says:

Ha ha ha ha ha. That final sentence is genius.

  7. John Cheek says:

    Ditchwater

  8. David Keen says:

sorry, dozed off, what were we talking about?

  9. Tim Wakeling says:

I know exactly what you mean about unstarted or unfinished projects! But surely you can spare five minutes every month or two to keep the dullness going? ;o) I think it’s a fabulous idea. However I do concede that the dullest blog, through not being updated for years, has become even more dull than it was before. And maybe it had to in order to preserve its status as the dullest blog in the world, at a time when it is facing stiff competition from a large number of other similarly-non-updated blogs… genius. :o D

  10. Tim Wakeling says:

Hmmm, Matt in comment 5 said the same as me in far fewer words. Must get my efficiency sorted out.

That’s how I found this blog, actually, through the Dullest blog.

I once had a job writing very like that, for an investigator which looked at cases of possible insurance fraud, people scamming the workers’ compensation system. You worked from taped footage of a person and described in minute, and unemotive detail what they did, especially as it related to their injury. You know: “They moved their left hand repeatedly over the neck.”

So yeah, it was kind of affirming to know that people could write prose like that – as a hobby!

What ho, I’m off to join that facebook group.

  12. David Keen says:

this needs to cease and desist, it’s getting too interesting.

Now things have got far too interesting. A post on Dave’s blog, deleted following some questionable legal correspondence, has been cited as evidence in court proceedings in the US against the new owners of SPCK bookshops.
