Now Dave

I saw you cutting out that basketballing bishop, and didn't want to interrupt. If I'd known, though, my trusty Swiss Army knife might just have come to the rescue. I'm glad to see you got the bouncing bishop up there in the end.

I guess the outcome of this Lambeth Conference will be judged not just by whether there is a similar event in 2018, but more crucially by whether the 2018 conference shop in the marketplace will be selling functional scissors as part of the official merchandise.

And in passing - taking down all those posts was the right thing to do - so many people have been supporting you, Essex clergy in various ways amongst them.

[...] Regular readers of this column will know all about Dave’s tribulations with Mark Brewer, but he’s had a lot else to deal with recently as the official Cartoonist in Residence at Lambeth. I spent 3 or 4 hours on most days helping him staff a stand in the Lambeth Marketplace which was promoting cartoonchurch.com and selling the books and calendars which contain his drawings. We had a steady stream of visitors, some of whom actually bought the products, and it was great fun to meet so many of his fans. I did have to keep explaining that I was not Dave Walker, though. The lifesize drawing of a bishop trying but failing to get a basketball into the net seemed to strike a chord with many bishops. Rowan Williams himself did come by, but nobody had a camera on hand.
Was the BBC story going to be that a folding chair had been stolen? I know a 24 hour news is desperate for breaking news but that is taking the biscuit. (Biscuit theft would be the follow up story)

The miraculous transformation of chair into an ASB... just think what might have happened if there had been a PEW in there! You'd probably have got a Book of Common Prayer!

Wow...the British ARE terrified of coming across as self-centred. As a North American, I caught not a whiff of self-promotion. And, naturally, you're all desperately interested in what I think...

Ps) Nice to see you, even if it was a rather brief 'hello'!

The cartoons are wonderful - except the one I can't open, so I don't know if it's wonderful or not, but I assume so. The Daily Programe won't show itself, except for the little teaser bit with Rowan at the podium. So sorry to kvetch. I especially love the rabbits, and the official drawing of the bishops - I want to blow up the drawing of the photo of the bishops to poster size and put it in the lobby of my church!
