More interesting pictures of my Lambeth Conference cartooning tent

Please excuse me going on about my tent. You will say if I’m becoming a bore won’t you?

Dave, do go on and on about your excellent headquarters! I am impressed with the neat and tasteful tent itself, and still more with the fact that you have been given a prime spot which is not only adjacent to the heavily-travelled walkway but also adjacent to the Senate building. This surely reflects the dignity and importance of your role at the Conference. Carry on! Can’t wait to see what you post.

  2. Nicola says:

These are indeed dramatic photos and I would like to see more of them. It would be useful if you could let us know how you achieved them – shutter or aperture priority? What were your settings? How much retouching have you done? Did you set your own white balance using that extent of canvas?

  3. Richenda says:

Is that blue thing Tardis or a rubbish bin? And I do hope that your tent is bigger on the inside, or how will your public visit you?

  4. Phillip Fayers says:

The view from the Cathedral is nicer from various spots by the Keynes duck pond (say hello to Simon the goose if he’s still around – but be careful of the ducks as they are probably hungrier than usual due to the absence of students).

  5. maggi says:

is that a small TARDIS just outside?

  6. Nicthevic says:

Really? Is that the cathedral? It looks more like the Tardis to me.

  7. Dave says:

Thank you for all these Tardis comments (all made independently). I assume that the bins have been made over to appear like tardises (tardi?) for security reasons.

  8. rosalind says:

Hi Dave – like the tent! If Ruth Gledhill has a swimming pool (as posted several months ago) could you have a paddling pool? Or even a water slide down that wonderful slope….

We showed your “pre-Lambeth Hospitality” cartoon to an African bishop and spouse whom we were being hospitable to pre-Lambeth, and it was greatly appreciated, especially the wheel barrow and bishops greeting each other, so I am sure you will get lots of visitors – they might even laugh.

  9. Chip says:

    What’s a Tardis?

  10. Pax Vobiscum says:

That’s not a rubbish bin. It is the filing system for episcopal submissions to contentious debates.

And I hope it will be used wisely and well.

  11. Bob Gould says:

Just for the record – if you want a Latin plural for”Tardis”, “Tardes” would seem the most likely. However, since there is probably only one Tardis, perhaps these are likely to be the more common type of police box (plural boces), which nowadays tend to sell coffee…

  12. ellen says:

The seating thingys look like scary spiders! Help! Thank goodness for “the doctor and the cartoon tent”…tune in next week for the concluding episode.

  13. robert marshall says:

Yep – can we have a picture of lots of folk in episcopal robes sitting at those picnic tables and a suitable perspective warped Dalek? Please?

  14. John Davies says:

As you well know the Prayer Book writes ‘Of Ceremonies’:

‘OF suche Ceremonies as be used in the Church, and have had their beginning by the institucion of man: Some at the first were of godly intent and purpose devised, and yet at length turned to vanitie and supersticion.’

I trust that your tent is of godly intent and that no vanity is, or is likely to become, involved in the cartooning ceremonies held therein.

  15. Cal says:

Are you finding it windy up there at all? (And I don’t mean hot air?!)

I grew up near Canterbury (do check out the wonderful town of Fordwich if you get the chance) and whilst I only went up to the university very occasionally I do remember it being strikingly windy.
