I haven't visited for a bit, but I follow the "pseudonymous but nothing that would embarrass me if revealed" rule.

>I will have to develop some sort of litmus test so we all know what is the right sort of nonsense.

I'd be recommending against clarity. That gives a possibiity for decisions to be queried.

Far better a large dose of Anglican fudge and "this blog is my kingdom and I am a benevolent despot, so there".

On other words, pretend to be a Bishop....

Dave,
Is it possible that your entire blog might be disqualified by virtue of rule 6?

Phew!!(on the buns issue) I thought I had broken rule 6 too!

I agree with what Dave has said. I must admit I always use my real name primarily as I can never remember forum names! but also because its just easier to call me by my actual name.
I actually think the comments are well looked after - its not too often that I see detrimental comments or arguments get out of control so I think a little reminder like above just ensures that people don't flaunt the rules.
Anyway if I ever get out of hand please do not hesitate to tell me, its worth it to keep this wonderful blog safe and welcoming for all.

Russ,

Yes - you are indeed correct. Nonsense of the right sort is welcomed.

I will have to develop some sort of litmus test so we all know what is the right sort of nonsense.

Dave, I presume point 6 refers more to speculative rubbish on matters of importance, rather than humorous ruminating on inconsequential topics (eg toasting hot cross buns, vegetable racks and the like)?

Otherwise the deranged burblings of occasional contributors like me might be outlawed. Which could be a good thing for all concerned, but may not be what you intended. Especially if you're after quirky ideas for future cartoons =:)

Just a word from a dinosaur who has to admit that he merely contributes to his children's website. You highlight some important issues and manage to keep amazingly upbeat. I'm sure I speak for many who appreciate this (almost) daily tonic, but rarely think that they can add usefully to it. Keep up the good work!

Seems perfectly reasonable to me, Dave: appreciate all you do, especially on the SSG/SPCK debacle. I keep thinking about running a blog alongside UKCBD but just the thought of dealing with all the comments exhausts me. Keep up the good work!

I have chosen to use my real name because it protects people - now I am outside of the SSG issue I can say things without causing too much trouble for those still inside (though I have messed up recently - sorry guys). If I say something then the Brewers can not suspect someone still inside the bookshops for using a pseudonym which even with mistakes may make things worse.

On the attacking of an individual or individuals, where there is a consesus that things are wrong we can and have been saying things by reporting the facts. When it comes to an individual situation we can ethically and legitimately post only what we know for certain. We need to be careful with our posts that we do not give people cause for upset or ammunition against us - remember how Dave was misqutoed on Youtube concerning the SSG video. Rather than buyer beware it is blogger beware.
