BBC blogging guidelines

The BBC has issued a set of guidelines for its employees on blogging. The general message seems to be ‘talk to your line manager’. This guidance is part of a wider set of guidelines covering social networking and the internet and things like that.

There are also editorial guidelines on the subject of religion, which say, among other things:

Comedy and satire always have the potential for offence.

Indeed. I should probably issue a blanket apology every now and then just to be on the safe side.

Sorry everyone.

Apology accepted….. hahahahahaa… Dave we need more humor in the church, so never apologize for bringing your gifting to us all, we need the fun as much as we need liturgy!

And down the drain goes another bastion of free speech. Nothing should stop us from having a laugh. By the way Dave, I found your book in a bookshop in the category “General Christian Fiction”! I’m not kidding.

  3. Chris Clark says:

In the words of Basil (Brush that is not the genrally recognised great!) “pardon me for existing”

It is important to laugh at oneself a lot in order to laugh at others a little (planks and specks come to mind) Dave you do that admirably ……..

……but then there is a lot to laugh about :-)

I love these Blog rules and regs – I bet people love making them up – maybe you should make some of your own!
Having said that, I gave your book to the Churchwarden a couple of weeks ago saying ‘You’ll love this, it mentions you alot’ and she gave it me back last sunday without comment!!

  5. veritas says:

Lexie I don’t think that the people in my parish have read Dave’s book. For some strange reason we don’t have a churchwarden!

  6. Lexie says:

No churchwarden? We have TWO!! Would you like one of ours? :-)
I have to say I did give the book out with some trepidation but I personaly laughed all my way through the book (being an old Baptist I really laughed at the single person with their hand outstretched in the air)
This could be a new kind of Ministry – Getting your congregation to read Daves book without certain people getting slightly upset!

  7. Blogging guidelines for BBC employees - what about church employees? « Chris Kidd - applied youth ministry says:

[...] Blogging guidelines for BBC employees – what about church employees? Posted on March 23, 2008 by Chris Cartoon Dave points out that the BBC has issued a set of guidelines for its employees on blogging.  They seem fairly sensible, and some might even say helpful, with the general message being link with your line manager.  I think that could work fairly well, so long as the line manager has the time and interest to think through some of the issues.
