Methodist bloggers

Some of the UK’s Methodist bloggers have been having a gathering this weekend.

Note the dark brown cups as opposed to the pale green variety traditionally used by Anglicans. (Aside: If the Methodists and Anglicans ever join together the proposal is to have cups of a murky brown pale green colour.)

The Methodists are way ahead of use Anglicans in terms of mixing and mingling. Not only do they meet in real life, but they’ve had a Facebook group for a lot longer than our brand new Anglican one (I’ve been overjoyed at the response by the way – thanks everyone).

Dave Warnock has posted quite a bit about the Methodist bloggers get-together, as has Richard starting here and with pictures here. Other Methodist bloggers at the event included Olive Morgan (86 years old), Pam, ‘Turbulent Cleric‘, John and Will.

Finally, from Richard’s comments:

Kim Says:
When can we expect the joint communiqué?

Paul Martin Says:
Sorry Kim, but we can’t agree on one.

Great stuff. God bless the Methodists.

There were some paler coloured cups that we sometimes used. Do you think I might have sipped from a cup kept for Anglican use? Perhaps I should ring the retreat house so that they can give them a really good clean. :)

  2. Bimble says:

I note a distinct lack of cassocks as compared to the Anglican Bloggers in the cartoon below… these could almost be anyone off the street!!

  3. Miffy says:

But does this mean that if one wishes to be an anglican blogger but don’t fancy wearing a dress one has to become a Methodist?!

BTW on my rare ventures into Methodist territory, mugs have been offered as an option at coffee time. Does this indicate something regarding the inclusiveness of the particular congregation? Or had I perchance stumbled across a ‘Fresh Expression?’

  4. Paul Martin says:

Actually, most of the time we are on the streets. Blogging is merely an excuse to ask for food and shelter. I’d get myself a cassock but am impoverished by the church I occasionally work for.

  5. Philip of Samaria says:

we had pale green cups in congregational church days… memories of washing up hundreds of the things

  6. ED says:

Gosh, what a photo. Anywhere outside the Methodist blogging community, and you’d blame pollution.

  7. Richard says:

Was trying to remember what colour the cups were at St Marys Rickmansworth where I went when I was younger – as a joint Anglican/Methodist Church they perhaps would answer your cup colour question…

  8. ash says:

I note that only one Emerging Church member has infiltrated their midst. Or is it only Emerging Anglicans who have Apple Macs?

  9. Richard Hall says:

Of the laptops present, 3 were Macs. If Apple had that share of the computer market, they’d be whooping for joy!

My parish has a diverse allotment of coffee cups.

I’ve worn a cassock exactly once. Last year, during the last part of the summer, we switched to Morning Prayer in place of the regular “pre-Peace” part of the Eucharist (Rite II) and as a licensed lay reader I was put on the rota with a few of the other licensed lay readers. I had “fun” going through the parish cassock collection trying to find one that fit the upper body of an average size female. don’t inhale . . . don’t inhale . . . don’t inhale

Just noticed – non-brown cup in lower left corner of photo – must have been a non-Methodist present ;-)
