Here's the link to the Christmas Wish from Andrew White (Vicar of Bagdhad). Oh yes, two years ago when I met up with him (Dec 2006) just after the take over his comment on looking up a certain site was "The Lunatic Fringe". As Andrew (when he is in the States) is a guest lecturer at Weaton College then he knows more than we think about the US Church.

Happy New Year to you too Dave. My resolution in the new year is to put on a stone in weight. This has 2 advantages a) it’s more realistic than aiming to lose a stone b) If I fail I’ll be happy.

Seeing the New Year in with either a party or television!?! Not me. Some of us had to work on new Years day (stomps off mutteriing about mean employers then sticks head back in) Did people see the Christmas greeting to ex and current SPCK/SSG staff from the Vicar of Bagdad that I posted on the SPCK/SSG Bookshops on Radio 4 thread?

I have made no resolutions at all this year, but hope to keep a slightly clearer in-tray, and would like to spend more time doing things than buying things.

We watched the Jools Holland Hootenanay – my wife’s illusions were shattered when she discovered it wasn’t live. Some quality music, though.

I just don’t get it. Would somebody please tell me what the point of all this new year razzamatazz is? You get an evening of constipated TV of the lowest common denominator and then, just when I’m trying to get a decent night’s sleep the whole world suddenly lets off bloomin’ loud fireworks. And then the phone rings, and it is never anyone we know. Why? Every year I find it utterly baffling, no more so than at the so-called ‘millennium’. It is just plain weird.

We visited my sister and her family over Christmas where they live in the east end of London. We watched the London fireworks on TV then opened the front door to listen to them a couple of seconds later.

By the way, did anyone notice that the Jools Holland new year show was pre-recorded?! In disgust we turned it off and saw the new year in with a cup of tea.

Thanks all – Happy New Year.

We saw in the New Year in an obscure street in Grays. Enjoyed neighbours fireworks and the hooting horns from the tugs in Tilbury docks.
