Put torch in the glovebox. Mints are always useful. Blanket in the boot. Shovel (in case you get snowed in). Copy of Guardian (in case you are attacked by Daily Mail readers). Chicken sandwiches. Sorted.
Also, why does anyone bother with Sat-Nav? Takes all the fun out of motoring any distance. Where would we all be without the elation of getting onto the same page of the road atlas as our destination? Tracking where the next services is. Hazarding wild guesses at distances and getting it entirely wrong.
Reckon the Wise Men wouldn’t have made it at all if they’d had to rely on Sat-Nav rather than Star-Nav (TM). “Turn left at the inn and travel 50 metres to the cattle trough? Can’t be right, Melchior, we’ve gone wrong somewhere. Ruddy Sat-Nav, it’s really giving me the hump …”
