Across the divide

across the divide

I am naive enough to think that people from opposite ends of spectrums and other sides of fences can get along and eat tea and cake together.

I was interested to see, for instance, that Archbishop Desmond Tutu is to be the President of the Church Army. Their Chief Executive, ex-youthworker Mark Russell talks about it on his blog. I make no judgement about where the Church Army stand theologically because I don’t know enough about them, but all the same I was mildly surprised to hear that they’d teamed up with Archbishop Tutu, who is known for being on the more liberal side of things in the current Anglican goings-on.

I was surprised, but pleased. It is good to see people working together and getting on with the important things rather than getting bogged down in the current wrangles.

Oh! That’s the problem, Dave! We keep trying to get people to sit down over crackers and wine! Tea and cake, I’m so totally there.

  2. Aaron says:

Tea and Cake or Death! Tea and Cake or Death!

I’ve sat at the table as a gap, no less daunting than the one you’ve drawn, has opened between me and the fellow sitting next to me. When the conversation was done, we shared soup and sandwiches. They were delicious, but sadly not delicious enough to close the chasm.

  3. Mark Bennet says:

Perhaps Anglicans do not work across the divide because they don’t have the cross. Or perhaps they are not cross enough?

ahah. possibly i am naive, and truly i know little about the intricacies of dogma differences within Christianity, but i figure this image works with sectarian differences in most religions.

over-ripe tomatoes and slighty rotten eggs, indeed.

Slightly rotten eggs? They’ll be for the curate, then.
