There will not be a Cartoon Blog post today

testingI am still not reverting to daily posting on the Cartoon Blog, but on days when I will not be posting I will attempt to make a post like this just to let you know that there will not be a post so that you are not continually on the lookout for one.

I will now just fill the space up with uninteresting news just so that there is not blank space.

Today we loaded the bicycles into the camper van and drove to a place where there is a road with no cars. It is the only road in Essex with no cars and the location is a closely guarded secret (It is near Brentwood, just off the A128). I do still intend to sell the camper van of course, but I have not got around to thinking about how I might start to plan the preliminary steps that will be required to proceed towards a point where I can contemplate beginning the initial stages of the process.

We went to the supermarket with the camper van. The camper van is large, which is good for carrying things. The problem with carrying supermarket shopping in a camper van though is that the groceries tend to roll around a bit, as there is too much space for them. Various items tend to go skedaddling across the width of the van, which is not good if they are eggs. The answer is to stack the groceries against the left hand side of the van and then only go around corners that will cause you to bear right. It can be done as long as you live somewhere that can be reached via a spiral route.

This evening we did barbecuing. We do have a proper metal barbeque, but the wire grill is not fit for cooking owing to the fact that it was left outside for a lengthy duration whilst a winter was taking place. We therefore use a disposable barbeque, but perch it on top of the proper metal non disposable barbeque in order to keep it away from the cats who are nosey parkers. This is not an ideal situation, but it is the best you can do if these are your circumstances. I am hoping that we might be able to buy a wire grill to replace one that suffered under the elements. If you see one let me know. These are the specifications: Shape: round, Size: largish, Handle-y things: yes.

As much as I hate it, I have to buy a car. Things in the New World are more spread out, especially in Canada, and outside of Toronto there’s no public transit capable of transiting the public. At least not into subdivisionland, which is where some of our parishioners live. I can walk to the church and the hospital, but I need wheels to visit Mrs. Crabtree.

I’d buy that camper van from you if I thought getting it to Canada wouldn’t cost more than a brand-spanking new camper van (or smart car) purchased here.

You could tie the handles of the carrier bags together to stop stuff falling out and rolling around. But then it occurred to me that you are probably good at taking your own reusable hessian bags and don’t use carriers in which case forget what I just said.

Have you tried Freecycle for your barbecue thingy? Someone in your area might just be wanting to give one away.

Aaron – I would advise strongly against buying my camper van. It would not be long before you’d be sat at the4 side of a road somewhere whilst Mrs Crabtree looks anxiously at the clock.

Rev Ruth – normally we do use ‘bags for life’, but this was a crazy spur of the minute shopping trip and so we didn’t have the bags. I must admit that we do occasionally use carrier bags as we need something to put cat litter in, and at least Tescos bags are biodegradable unlike most high street ones. I’m sure that someone will tell me a better way to dispose of cat litter.

Love it, love it, love it!

While you were doing that I was walking fifteen miles in searing heat along the route of an old railway line and passing through a housing estate on the rougher edge of Hull I encountered a man staggering towards me carrying on his shoulders half a bicycle (no wheels, broken chain), and in his hands various misshapen carrier bags. He delighted in telling me, at great length and high volume, that he’d just found six hundred quid on the path. Lucky man.

  5. Karin says:

Co-op carrier bags are also biodegradable, Dave. :D

No, I don’t manage to shop at the Co-op very often either, so I can’t feel smug.

I’ve seen, but never used, a type of cat litter here in the US that is made from Organic wheat and is flushable. I’m afraid I can’t recall the name right now.
