Lambeth Palace

I happened to be loitering outside Lambeth Palace this afternoon, and noticed this sign next to the door.

lambeth palace

There are several observations one could make, but the one that particularly came to mind is that the safe arrival of guests at the Palace depends entirely upon the correct placing of six coloured drawing pins.

It concerns me that ne’erdogooders could, if armed with reasonable fingernails or, heaven forbid, some extra coloured drawing pins, create havoc in the Palace and therefore the entire Anglican Communion. Visitors to the Archbishop’s cottages could turn up at the library, visitors to the flats could be mistaken as Advisors, and all sorts. It would be a scene of utter chaos.

Let’s just hope and pray it never happens.

[Unrelated aside. Saw some of the Tour de France opening ceremony in Trafalgar square this evening. It has really buoyed me with enthusiasm for the race over the next two days. If you get the chance to be anywhere near London or Kent to see the Tour then I'd say do.]

On my PC all the colours look rather similar. I think Lambeth palace should be prosecuted for descrimination against the colour blind…

.or if you do get challenge when you are where you shouldn’t be you could fein colourblindness and they would have to let you off..

This is great! It makes Lambeth Palace look like ‘just your friendly local parish church’, which is quite nice really. I wonder if there are a selection of elderly ladies who make jam and cakes and fun a fĂȘte…

  3. Bimble says:

In all fairness, we don’t need the movement of a couple of pins to cause hvoc to the entire Anglican Communion, we’re quite abl to manage by ourselves!!!

  4. jody says:

surely it’s ne’erdowell? ooh that’s difficult to spell

I am sooo confused! Does this mean that you go to where the green pin is at the bottom in order to get to the green places listed at the top? So then you would go to where the blue pin is at the bottom to get to the blue places listed at the top. Only there are three green pins at the top and only one at the bottom, whereas with the blue pins there’s a 1:1 correspondence. Kind of. Except that the blue pin at the top is marking two different places. Is this one of those really subtle things you have to be British in order to understand? And where is the Lambeth Walk? I think I’ll go back and look at the Tour de France pictures now. I can relate to those yellow things that look like giant Toddler Taxis.
