Christian Aid cut the carbon march

christian aid

Christian Aid are about to undertake what they describe as the longest protest march ever in the history of, well, everything. It is in aid of Global non-warming. There are no vacancies for marchers, but there is one vacancy for a driver to drive an electric vehicle around Britain at 4mph. To me this seems like quite a good deal. You get all the fun of being involved but without the blisters. At 4mph you can take in details like flowers in the hedgerows etc. If you see something interesting slow down to 3mph for a bit. Heck, you can always speed up to 5mph for a bit to catch up.

If you don’t get this job (and most of you won’t as there is only one vacancy) there are various big rallies and small teas you can go to. You can join a group on the Facebook too. It’s all in aid of campaigning for the supremely important cause of stopping the world’s poor being having their lives ruined by the selfish actions of the rich, ie us.

  1. Rev Ruth says:

They are coming to my wee church in Edinburgh, by the sea, for lunch on the 23rd. It started off as a small tea but grew.

  2. jody says:

I just read the ‘letters’ section of this months Christian Aid mag and they were filled with letters saying ‘boo Christian Aid’ and things like that, thinking that they were getting all carried away by ‘this Great Global Warming Swindle’ (not that they’d been taken in by the worst journalistic programme this year)

I have to say I was shocked that most thought climate change a ‘side issue’ and not really linked enough to the helping the poor to be of much worth – someone even said they would send their money elsewhere if the emphasis on climate change continued – really!

So, hurrah for CA and their carbon march, sorry there’s no room left for marchers I would have liked that.

  3. Chris Clark says:

I guess the electric vehicle will have to be a milk float as they have to cross from Northern Ireland :-)

  4. lionfish says:

Cool idea. I live in Edinburgh now so will hopefully be joining in, in some way. I’ll tell my local WDM group about it too!

  5. Andrew says:

I’m not impressed with Christian Aid myself and will not be making any donations on account that they are conning people with fake government ‘science’. It was the Club of Rome that was the organisation who started this whole global warming lie off in the first place. I even wrote to Christian Aid to explain how they are conning/being conned and have had no answer. This is typical of an organisation that does the globalists bidding and does not want to face the facts. This isn’t even Christian; it is the antithesis of what Christianity is supposed to be about. Jesus never sided with the Romans; he spoke the truth whether convenient or otherwise. What we see here is a corruption of his teachings. It stinks, quite frankly.

Sorry Andrew, I can’t agree. This one of the most important ethical issues in today’s world, up there with global poverty and trade issues. It can’t be a corruption of Jesus’ teachings to care about the world he created and the people he died for. Admittedly there are no proof texts saying “go on the Cut the Carbon March on August 27th”, but this is one of a possible range of Christian responses to the grave consequences of human fallibility.

  7. Steve Rawlings says:

    I disagree with Andrew too.

The uncertainty and doubts that Andrew mentions might have been prevalent in the 1980s, but climatologists have come a long way since then. Although the exact consequences of global warming for a given location are still difficult to predict, the relationship between an increase in the concentration of greenhouse gases and a corresponding increase in the average global temperature is well understood.

So it’s a bit harsh to talk about a “global warming lie”. If you trap more heat energy within the Earth’s atmosphere, the Earth has to get hotter: that part is easy to model.

Much of the scientific evidence is contained within the reports produced by the IPCC. I regret to say that the IPCC’s conclusions are no longer in doubt. For over 500,000 years (up until the 1800s), the concentration of carbon dioxide never went above 300 parts per million. It is now 380 parts per million; and, not surprisingly, there has been a corresponding rise in global temperatures.

Observe the melting ice-sheets; the increasing sea levels; the increase in average night-time temperatures; the changing weather patterns, and you will draw the same conclusions as the thousands of scientists who have contributed to the IPCC reports.

You don’t need complicated scientific apparatus to observe the effects – just a wrist watch and a digital thermometer will do.

I wish that you were right: that all this talk of climate change and global warming was just a hoax. However, I am persuaded by the evidence presented by the hundreds of professionals who have contributed to the IPCC reports.

Everyone is part of the problem, and everyone has the potential to be part of the solution. My thanks to Christian Aid for undertaking this important initiative – especially to the marchers themselves, many of whom are already seeing the devastating effects of global warming in their own countries.

  8. Karin says:

Who are you Andrew that you know better than some of our best scientists?

Have you watched An Inconvenient Truth?

Surely anyone who loves God will care for His Creation and anyone who loves his neighbour as himself will not use more than his fair share of the planet’s resources.
