Leigh-on-Sea Art Trail 2007

This post is of interest mainly to people reading who are fairly local to me, which is probably in the region of between none and three.

The Leigh Art Trail is on at the moment in Leigh on Sea. The idea is that lots of local artists display their work in different venues, and people can wander around and take a look. This is a BBC report. It finishes this Saturday, the 16th of June, so I am a bit late posting about it.

We are going there this evening as some of my oil paintings are on display in the college where I have been doing my evening course. It is part of an exhibition called ‘ART’, so called because that is what it is. The exhibition does not really seem to be advertised anywhere unfortunately, but it it is at the Leigh Community Centre in Elm road, which is about 12 minutes from the railway station. It is next door to the Police Station and just down from the Sarah Moore pub. Leigh is about 50 minutes from London Fenchurch street using the railway. The Art Trail would make a nice day out on Saturday perhaps. You could print off a map and everything. Do not travel specially to see my paintings from any distance though as your disappointment will be widespread and bitter.

If art isn’t your thing there is a free folk festival in a few weeks time.

Dave, you do have at least one fairly local reader in myself, from Chelmsford. And I know just what you mean about working from home. But sadly I don’t think I can make it to this art festival.

  2. Karin says:

From what I’ve seen of Leigh-on-Sea the people who live there must need a lot to cheer them up, so arts and folk festivals are a good idea.

  3. Ellen says:

the famous potatoes are playing at the leigh free folk festival. They are my favourite potato related band. Not to be missed potato fans.

  4. Karin says:

Is this a band called ‘Famous Potatoes’ or a famous band called ‘Potatoes’?

  5. John Davies on a Liverpool housing estate says:

They are (if you are of a certain Greenbelt vintage) a famous band called ‘Famous Potatoes’. The soundtrack of our youth. Just as Jack White captures the soul of Detroit in his gem ‘Hotel Yorba’, so to FP fans the soul of Leigh-on-Sea is encapsulated in their classic ‘I Love Chicken Pie’.

(Even though it would have been better if it had referenced seafood)

  6. Karin says:

Thanks, John. I haven’t been going to Greenbelt all that long – I never heard of it in my yoof, unfortunately. Mind you, I haven’t heard of Jack White, either. I’ll take your word that Leigh-on-Sea has a soul, perhaps I haven’t seen it at it’s best.

  7. Ellen says:

If you bought the single for ‘I love Chicken Pie’ you even got a recipe for Chicken Pie – genius. I still using this recipie (see what I did there?) to this day. Thanks for the memories.
