And that's before you even start considering all the different denominations, each with their own equivalent systems of boundaries, or even without boundaries defined.

I used to snort at parishes belonging to a 'gathered' type church til.. I met the vicar local to my work - great guy; I spoke at a parish church with 8 people there who sang unacompanied and fantastically well - only a tuning fork to help!. The idea that out there is the possibility every few miles of someone leading a group of christians to be disciples is amazing - and my recent experience suggests that's more how it is now than in the past when anglicans where more the local social club for the prevailing clique. May it be more so

The parish boundaries in our neck of the woods look more like a quirky jigsaw puzzle with as many strange shapes as possible. We also have things like 'Odcombe Detached', which is a bit of a rural parish boundary which sneaked off when nobody was looking and took up residence on an industrial estate a couple of miles away.

I think my church is all of the above - I am surprised anybody goes there. Even more surprising given that they will also meet me.
