Archbishop Rowan to take 3 months off

archbishop Rowan williams

The Archbishop of Canterbury is to take 2 months study leave as well as his usual annual month’s holiday, reports Ruth Gledhill.

One thing is for sure: the poor man can’t win at the moment. Most people in the world of Anglican goings-on have a problem with him at the moment, especially the liberals.

Perhaps he needs to step back before taking what might prove to be some of the biggest decisions in the history of Anglican things. Archbishop Rowan, if you’re reading: Take the time if you need it. And sorry the picture above is a bit rubbish. I didn’t put a lot of time or effort into it.

Speaking of time and effort, I am sorry that there has not been much meaty in-depth debate and analysis on the site for a few days. I am still groaning under the pressure of deadlines and the usual problems.

Those who require humour could do worse than to look at this funny little video of things going a bit wrong in church. (Found via thechurchgeek)

surely the real point is to provide an excuse for what will now be the refusal to talk with the Episcopal Church.

  2. Aaron says:

Part of his “vacation” will be spent visiting us at Trinity College, in Toronto. I plan on printing this cartoon for him…

  3. Ann says:

According to Bp Whalon – this has been in the works for some time – ABC wants to write a book.

  4. jody says:

I’m sure that the ABC will still talk with TEC but if he was suddenly going to have a personality transplant and decide not to, I’m not sure that he would need 3 months to find an excuse.

  5. Philip of Samaria says:

This ABC is a genuine theologian – long time since you anglican guys were blessed with one of those? I wish him well – of course he needs time to think and pray

This was mighty – arf arf!

    Thanks Dave

A useful reminder that we all need a bit of time out. The instant society will struggle with the idea that anyone important should take themselves out of the loop for 3 months, but good for him, he has his eyes more on God than on the newspaper headlines.

It would probably do TEC and the ABC good not to talk to each other for 3 months. So much of the debate has been reactive, rather than though-out and prayerful.
