Mother’s day cartoon

mothers dayYes yes yes, it is far too early for this, but there are some people who will have church magazines to prepare ahead of time. I’ve just redrawn this old Mother’s Day cartoon for someone, and it is now available for subscribers to republish. I redrew it using my splendid Argos lightbox. I was given it for Christmas.

Sorry that there has been a lack of original material so far this week. It is half term here and so I have been doing a few other things besides looking at the internet and drawing. Actually come to think about it I haven’t really done much else. Sorry.

I was wondering about doing a little cartoon series explaining the current Anglican goings-on at the primates Meeting in Tanzania. Would anyone out there be interested in such a thing were I to do so?

To be honest Dave, if you don’t draw a cartoon I won’t have a hope of understanding what’s going on in Tanzania. So that’s one “yes” anyway :)

  2. David says:

I am another yes. I don’t mind if you are not able to explain the ‘current Anglican goings-on’, because I am sure it will be humorous.

  3. ferijen says:

Yes. What Jack said, definitely ;)

    Yes please!

I think the Gorillas are in Rwanda rather than Tanzania but I’m no expert.

    Yes tell us more.

  9. MadPriest says:

    Mothers Day? Mothers Day!!!!!!
Do you mean that thing they do in America half way through May?
Or are you actually refering to the ancient, and completely unrelated, English festival of Mothering Sunday?
Tut, tut, young Walker – and you a “Church Times” contributor! I can imagine what they’ll be saying in the Shires about this little faux pas.

Another ‘yes’- thank goodness you make the effort to illuminate us, Dave.

Uncanny how you’ve captured my twelve-year-old son’s bedroom there on your Mother’s Day cartoon. I may print it out and stick it on his door, as a handy half-term hint. A big ‘thank you’ on behalf of mothers everywhere.

  11. Chris says:

Mine’s a “Yes” too, Dave, please!

Your full page last week was simply superb!

  12. Dave says:

    MadPriest,

The cartoon was drawn for a non-church audience. In such a seting to call it ‘Mothering Sunday’ makes no sense as the word ‘Mothering’ is entirely meaningless to the people who would see the cartoon.

See also this cartoon from last year.

I think one also needs to remember that Mothering Sunday would probably have died out were it not for the Americans.

I am happy, however, to do a version of the cartoon that says ‘Mothering Sunday’ if anyone would like me to.

  13. MadPriest says:

Dave, please assume humour is intended unless I prefix with the words “but seriously.”

Cartoons of monkeys are always good, in my opinion.

(The old ones are the best)

I don’t agree Chris. All monkeys ever do is piss on my head when I’m asleep. Now a tasteful cartoon involving apes would be a different matter.
