The Cartoon Blog on tour

wokingham poster
cartoon godI’m speaking and showing some cartoons at All Saints church in Wokingham, Berkshire on Sunday 21st January. The poster above is one designed by the folks at the church and used to tell other churches in the town about it – that is not my writing in case you were wondering. My talk will be part of an informal service where they have been taking ‘Cartoon God’ as their theme for the last few months. There will be songs and other things that happen in a church service.

I haven’t decided exactly what I’m going to say yet, but it will be something to do with the church and cartoons. It won’t just be about the book, that much I do know. I’ll be showing some drawings using a modern projecting device. If it goes well I might consider doing more of this sort of thing, but we will have to wait and see.

If anyone would like to come along it would be great to see you, but I would not advise travelling from overseas or far away in case I am not that interesting.

Will there be beer, whisky, drugs, lots of free food and groupies? Do you have a tour bus? Is there an official fan club? Or even a large club made out of fans?

  5. Dave says:

    Thanks for the enthusiasm though.

I’m not sure about some of your list T&E. Though I will be making a long list of strange and obscure things that I would like to be provided in my dressing room.

    My advice on the talk

    1) don’t say too many things We in the pew are simple folk and are easily confused and this will reduce the possibility of heckling

    2) don’t be too theological…if you are it will be obvious you have been to Bible College. Keeping this rule will reduce the possiblity of a stoning.

    3) test every element of the equipment together as it will be used and have a plan b) if the technology let’s you down! Rioting has been known if the punters don’t get what they expect.

Relax and enjoy it …what can go wrong?

  7. Philip of Samaria says:

Be a flame of fire Dave – burn it all down!

  8. Richard says:

Dressing room? There is only a vicars vestry, and a fairly spacious choir vestry thanks to the removal of the pipe organ a few years back.

Maybe if you ask really nicely they’ll give you a room in the Cornerstone building to prepare!

We have a prior engagement up the road in Finchampstead – but we’ll watch out for the tour bus going by!

  9. Philip of Samaria says:

    How was it Dave?

  10. Miffy says:

Well, that was good. No beer or whisky, but plenty of nice, hot coffee; no groupies, not a stoning in sight, and a grandstand view of the modern projecting device. My own little cartoon is in my handbag, and over the next few weeks I will try my hardest to resist the temptation turn passing The Peace into an olympic event!

    Thanks very much, Dave.

  11. Poppy says:

The warm up act of ‘will the projector work?’ was rather good providing tension and drama to hold the congo’s interest. There may have been a book running on how long will it take to fix and how many men will it take to fix a laptop but I couldn’t comment on how much the tower fund may have made on this side issue.

Loved the cartoons by the way..

  12. Dave says:

Thanks all – glad it was enjoyed.
