Things that I am not going to get involved with on the internet

I am telling you about these so that if you see me wasting time with them in the future you can point a finger at me and say “Aha!”

Twitter
Like blogging, but with single sentences. The idea is that you say what you are doing at this current moment, either via the internet or your phone. And then you do it again. And again. Even the fact that respected internet figures like Diamond Geezer are doing it is not tempting me to join in.

Second Life
A virtual world sort of thing. You can fly around and do various things that I don’t quite understand. Fortunately we do not have unlimited bandwidth broadband which means that I am not tempted to try. I note though that World Vision now have a presence in Second Life. I think you can get to it here, but it is a bit beyond me. As this blogger asks, is this the future of fundraising, or just a fad?

Memes
These are little quizzes and questionnaires and suchlike that get passed around the internet from blog to blog. I don’t generally have the energy for them. One exception might just possibly be Maggi’s invitation to the ’5 things’ Meme that has already gone 6 times around the internet. I’ve not got around to it today. Perhaps tomorrow.

Wow, you have so much more discipline than I do. I’ve played with all three. Memes are good for building community/readership on your blog, although I hate them too. Twitter, I checked it out .. and it isn’t for me. I’m too old. Second Life, I’m still deciding.
