I love the idea of evangelistic speed dating (the evangelistic part, obviously ) so I clicked your Chichester link but got page not found.

What a swiz. I'll never find out how to do it now. :(

Given that Maggi Dawn is a woman, you are still technically a one man campaign.

Thanks Chris for your reply. It is in that 'helping them to grow' that you talk of that we need to be more focused. My experience outside the cafe was not good and the rudeness to my friend was not the sort of foundation to build on. One thing is certain, now is the time to GO, out of our comfort zones, to proclaim, build and make disciples. Kevin.

I am not going to trade verses with you as context is vital and what you say is absoultely true...but I was quoting Mark not Matthew:-)

I just think it is easy to criticise the crass and then do nothing when it is clear that telling people and then helping them grow is something we are called to do. I speak to myself in this.

Chris, the instruction is not "a simple instruction to "go into all the world and preach the gosple" but to " Go therefore AND MAKE DICIPLES of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spririt" - Matt 28.19 - The task is clearly defined and not easy. The promise is of course "and lo I am WITH YOU allways.

Good work on the Oxford Street campaign

Also I am so grateful that you have pointed out this gem from my own diocese. I always wondered what evangelical circles were and now I know.

There is a new concept however, contra rotating evangelical circles which means that not only are they always going indifferent directions there is never any possiblity of them meeting.

Having said that whilst I cringe at inappropriate evangelism I bulk even more at Christians who ignore a simply instruction to "go into all the world and preach the gospel"

This has now arrived Down-Under. Having just arrived back from the UK I went with a friend for lunch to a neighbouring village. There was a mixed group (ages, backgrounds ,drinking habits) at the next table, talking over each other and generating much don’t-get-smart-with-me banter.
After fighting over the division of the bill, refusing to leave any tip, they got up to leave. As they left an older member of the group approached me, she stroked my dog who was on my lap, and still looking at Glastonbury (my dog), invited me to the old blue stone church around the corner, passing me a coffee stained hand-bill that had the other information she failed to communicate – they were having a mission. When I explained that I ministered in the parish next door she apologised, explained she was from Sydney (as if I hadn’t guessed), that she was just here for the mission and then, with out looking at my friend asked me “would he like one?”

Well if that didn’t confirm his views on foot-path evangelism.

Yes, I think I would hide if this group came chasing me along the street. At least with the Hari Chrisners (sic) you here them coming!

I joined your campaign too except I didn't tell anyone else about it. IE, I wrote a sharp note of protest to Oxford Street but then ... that was it. This probably demonstrates why I'll never be an evangelist.
(PS Ambivalence set in today when I got thinking about Blackpool Illuminations which have been on for two months but are in my opinion, being of a northern coastal cultural bent, ace)
