At the art class

oil painting

This is my first ever full colour oil painting. I did another which was just a two tone one.

I completed it at the art class last night. It looks quite good from a long way away or in a small photograph like this one.

It is called ‘Two books and a jug containing two wooden spoons and a spatula’. I do not have the time at the moment to explain why I chose that title.

    Very profound.

(Also very good, but I’m not going to tell you that in case the width of the doors at head height in your new home is not adjustable)

  2. Chris Clark says:

I very concerned that you chose to put wooden spoons in the title. This clearly displays a defeatist attitude. I would like to give you some in-depth counselling but instead…

    SNAP OUT OF IT!

  3. Neil says:

Interesting that you left the cloth out of the title, I would have called it ‘Two books and a jug containing two wooden spoons and a spatula standing on a white cloth’ – I guess you still have a lot to learn.

(The picture, from a distance in a small photgraph looks excellent by the way!)

  4. Dave says:

Smudgie – Thank you for kind comment.

Chris – I have now snapped and am out of it.

Neil – in art class circles we don’t mention the cloth as there is always a cloth – it is part of the curriculum.

  5. Sarah B says:

How about the alternative Matrix title then of “There is no cloth”?

I think it’s rather cool. Well done you! You’re actually managing to draw pictures that look like the real thing. I never manage that!

  6. Youthblog says:

I don’t think you can leave the cloth out that easily, there is always a jug but you’ve mentioned that!
Bold move leaving out the fruit entirely though :-)

When will we see the first cartoon in a Boticelli oil based stylee?

  7. jody says:

    really well done :-)

  8. Jack the Lass says:

    *impressed*

  9. Farli says:

    Wow!

Which side is the painting and which the real life?

  10. Neil says:

Is the red book a copy of Common Worship?

  11. Larry Day says:

Wonderful Dave. You are gifted indeed. :-)

  12. MadPriest says:

    It’s still life
But not as we know it

  13. ruth says:

    That is seriously good.

  14. Dave says:

Thanks for the continued kindness. I am slightly embarrassed.

I must assure you though that it does not look so good close up. It is a trick of the internet light.

  15. Ian says:

    Echoing others…WOW. Well done.

  16. ming says:

  17. Nefertiki says:

I must add my approval to the sincere congratulations above. You certainly have a good eye and masterly touch with still lifes. And after so few classes! Can’t wait until you graduate to portraits and landscapes.
