Sister Corita Kent

Jesus never fails

Admired by Charles and Ray Eames, Buckminster Fuller and Saul Bass, Sister Corita Kent (1918-1986) was one of the most innovative and unusual pop artists of the 1960s, battling the political and religious establishments, revolutionising graphic design and encouraging the creativity of thousands of people – all while living and practicing as a Catholic nun in California.

So says the Guardian on a slide show page about an Exhibition of Sister Corina’s work currently showing in London. The official site has more examples of her work, and there is a new book of her work published by Four Corners Books – more about the book, ‘Come Alive! The Spirited Art Of Sister
Corita’ can be found on their site. Thanks to Richard Embray of Four Corners Books for the image used in this post.

Thank you for introducing me to a wonderful life’s work. Who is doing similar powerful work today?

Can you tell me how to find a copy of “Primary Colors”, a documentary on Corita that was broadcast on KPBS in about 1989? I have lost my video copy.

  4. Elaine says:

I have some original paintings by sister corita kent. Is there any value to them?

  5. Deirdre Lee says:

I have a series of 4 prints: Damn Everything But The Circus, with a small penciled Corita signature on the Circus print. I also have a print from the same series: Give A Damn, with the Corita signature on the large X making up the main focus of the print. The frames are not in good shape having been stored for a good while but the prints appear to be fine. Do you have any idea of the value? I am trying to make a decision about whether to try to sell them or just to invest some money in cleaning and re-framing everything and finding a place to hang them again…..leaning toward keeping them, but mixed feelings abound.
