Moorlands College (2)

Last November I posted about Moorlands College, the place where I went to be trained on a Christian basis.

:)
Over the year quite a few ex and current students have popped in every now and then to say hello, which has been nice. Moorlands now has a new website, which makes it look more idyllic than ever. It is fairly idyllic actually, being on the edge of the New Forest.

:(
Maddie_C and I actually popped into the college grounds as we were in the area over the summer and I thought she might like to see it. We went to the reception, only to find that it is no longer the reception, and so we wandered over to the new reception, which was closed. Unfortunately we must have looked a bit shifty, as we were accosted by the chef, who told us in no uncertain terms that ex-students are not welcome. So we left, the encounter having left a slightly sour taste (metaphorically). I can understand that security needs to be an issue during the holidays, but one might have thought that the route from the car park to the reception would be a valid one for visitors to take.

I feel for you both. It is tragic when an institution cannot welcome its alumni with open arms. You should seriously consider writing to the principal or the present head of the department you were in to tell them what happened. You could base a cartoon around the topic of hospitality using this and the many other examples we can all think of of insensitive church life.

They will be inviting you to a reunion and asking for a donation or mention in your will next. :-)

    aawww that’s sad :-(

the college I train at has a yearly conference for current and ex students until they leave this mortal coil as they say – one extreme to the other eh :-) – I’d be sad if they didn’t have it tho’….

definitely send them that hospitality cartoon…

I think that Moorlands has recently been think of becoming Benedictine (Steve Brady may not approve) The chef was probably thinking you and maddy_c were gyratory

bendict says “But the fourth kind of we are about to found, therefore, a school for the monks is the kind which is called gyratory. During their whole life they are guests, for three or four days at a time, in the cells of the different monasteries, throughout the various provinces; always wandering and never stationary, given over to the service of their own pleasures and the joys of the palate, and in every way worse than the sarabaites. Concerning the most wretched way of living of all such monks it is better to be silent than to speak. ”

…did he throw you out with a mime?

I am in halls of residence at the moment, and I would rather like to strangle one of the security guards. Regrettably, that would violate the terms of the contract. He is also bigger than me.

that’s sad…the chef is kinda new (only been around a few months) also very strange that reception was closed, the only thing I can think is that you happened to go when they had a whole staff day retreat, as the chef isn’t a Christian he would have probably given it a miss…I can’t imagine it’d be a problem had you rung ahead, last year there were some break ins so security has definitely been tightened…anyway, enough rambling from another grad, having only left in June I’m in no hurry to go and look around!

    Hi Dave

Very sorry to hear you had a negative impression on a brief visit to Moorlands College a few weeks ago
Perhaps I can extend a formal invitation for you to return to the College and have a lunch and see some of the changes that have happened in the last few years.
Let me say we do value all of our Graduates, and want to extend a more traditional warm welcome to you.
