Understanding the sermon

understanding the sermon

This isn’t a new drawing of course, but it is the first time the high resolution version has been available on CartoonChurch.com for subscribers. I’ve modified the wording to make it church-specific. You can see all the recent additions to the cartoon downloads section here.

The original version of this image is here.

  1. Sarah says:

I love it! But I notice there’s nowhere for ‘those who hate sermons’. I feel excluded from your venn diagram.

  2. Mary says:

You made me laugh!!! I needed that, thank you! I’m giving my first sermon in less than 2 weeks, and I’m absolutely petrified!

  3. John says:

Venn diagram humor is always great.

    Keep up :o )

i am doing my 3rd sermon on Sunday and am absolutely petrified! am hoping that said petrification will abate over time…am not convinced :-)

hope it goes well for you!

  5. Septuagent says:

Erm ? Into which circle does the actual Preacher fit ?

Once upon a time there was a Clergyman who dreamt that he was preaching a sermon.

When he woke up he was.

    Boom – Boom.

    Exit.

(The old jokes are the best jokes).

  6. Mary says:

Thanks Jody! I THINK I can take comfort in that… LOL.

Septuagent – speaking for myself, I fit squarely (or curvy triangularly) in the middle…

  7. Eve says:

I love Venn diagrams too. Can we take it that those who fell asleep or like my mother, unable to get their hearing aids to work even though there is a hearing loop installed in the church, are in the area outside the diagram?

  8. James says:

    Understanding The Sermon.
It has not gone un-noticed Dave, that you have left ‘L’ out of the word REALISE in part of this cartoon. This is unacceptable. You will notice that when Anglicans leave ‘L’ out of the theological illustration nothing makes sense! ‘L’ is an essential part of the doctrinal landscape even for our more liberal anglican brothers otherwise they would be simpy ibera angicans, which I am sure you will agree makes a nonsense of their position. Are you a follower or a foower Dave? I challenge you to keep ‘L’ in so that we are all clear where you stand!! Ove in the Ord, James

  9. Robert says:

My wife is giving her third sermon on Sunday and I am petrified!

  10. Mary says:

LOL! So how many times have you heard it then? Does she mention you in it? I’ve been told to draw on personal experience when I write sermons… my 7yo daughter got a mention in mine.

Oh, in case anyone was wondering, mine went really well, and the congregation seemed to fit in the “those who understand the sermon” segment.

  12. Jaded for Jesus says:

Love the cartoon, but ‘fraid I spotted a missing ‘l’ from ‘realise’ in the intersection on the left. Any chance of changing that in the next week or so before I put the next parish magazine together??

  13. Dave says:

I have now at long last corrected it. Sorry it took so long.
