Book signings

book signing at the Church Times yurt

Above: Signing copies of ‘The Dave Walker Guide to the Church’ in the Church Times yurt at Greenbelt. The reception wasn’t all quite this rapturous, but I had a great time sitting in the yurt for a number of spells over the weekend. Lovely to meet so many people enthusiastic about what I do.

It seems a bit self seeking to be publishing these photographs, but then again I think one has to make the most of these things when they happen. Click below if you’d like to see a couple more.

book signing 2

Above: This, on the other hand, was the book signing at the ‘official’ Greenbelt bookshop. It wasn’t really publicised at all, and therefore was a bit of a failure. The fact that it was pelting down with rain didn’t help. I think I did sign 2 books though, and Maddie_C and my dear sister loitered to make me look a bit less sad and lonely.

church times book offer

Above: The banner outside the Church Times yurt. The paper was running an offer for new subscribers and giving away the book. Marvellous.

I’ll try to put up some more photos before too long – in particular some from our Wibsite gathering. I’m still rather under the weather with this cold though so apologies if things take a while. This applies to all the people who have written to me as well – I’ll catch up as soon as I can.

In the meantime the folks form the Wibsite have a Flickr group of Greenbelt photos – including this one by Rhys of me signing books.

Welcome back returning hero and thanks for the rogue, captioneering opportunity.

  2. Sarah B says:

Are you secretly holding a gun under the table?? That guy looks kinda like you frightened him into signing the book! ;oP
Still not bought a copy but am now cherishing my signed edition of Dave Walker’s Guide to Greenbelt!!

  3. Kathryn says:

Well, it does prove that you were there yurting from time to time, even if never when I looked!
Sorry the “official” signing didn’t work well. Bookshop too far off the beaten track, perhaps? Even knowing it was there, I didn’t get to it till Monday…

  4. Jack the Lass says:

Yes, I agree with Kathryn about the bookshop location. Fortunately, it didn’t really matter to me as I’d already decided not to buy any books (with Dave’s being the honorable exception, obviously) as I’ve still not read most of the ones I bought last year. Or the year before.

Hope your cold gets better soon Dave.

  5. maggi says:

my son was absolutely RAPT to meet you IRL – “Mum, that was the REAL Dave Walker!!!” he kept saying.
hope the book keeps selling in shedloads.

Not having been to Greenbelt for too, too long, I am sadly left out. My curiosity has got the better of my desire not to appear ignorant. Please, someone tell me what a yurt is?
My guess is that a yurt is to a futon what a gazebo is to a sofa bed, but I might be so dangerously wrong as to lose my credibility for nearly a week.

  7. Dave says:

Actually the person is the picture is the editor of the Church Times. It was a carefully staged photograph for the press.

Yes – the out of the way location probably did have an impact on the bookshop. I think though that my signing solitude was because it was a wet day and so they had no notice outside telling people about the signings.

Nic – I think you are on the right lines. I have never seen a £20 yurt in Tescos, that much is true. If you do a google search there are sites telling you how to build one etc.

    Maggi :)

  8. Ian M says:

I’m pleased to say that I was one of the two people who had the book signed at the ‘official’ bookshop. Ta very much.

  9. Dave says:

    Thankyou Ian!
