Chelmsford bishops

essex bishops

Above: Three of the Bishops of Essex along with one on loan from Europe gather after an ordination service in Chelmsford this afternoon.

We’ve been up to Chelmsford during the day for a spot of ordination, which was lovely. Thought you might like to see what some of the bishops are wearing this season. Brightly coloured copes (like a cape but spelt differently) fastening across the front are quite the thing it appears. Hats are good – but it’s ok for the height to vary.

The final final deadline for the book is now tomorrow – I’ll be physically taking the disk and printouts into London so I have the absolute maximum of faffling time up until the last minute.

I can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel, though it is temporaily hidden under a bushel.

Very nice photo. I am pleased to see that the bishops are conscious of color coordination of hats and copes. On second glance I notice that even the trim is nicely coordinated, suggesting the practiced eye of a stylist.

I forgot to add my very confident wishes that all your hard work will pay off even better than hoped or dreamed. Just preparing a book for publication while helping plan your own wedding is a great accomplishment.

  3. Tired&Emotional says:

Why are there three Bishops of Essex? Couldn’t one of them do it on their own? Is it a jobshare scheme? Is it one for the Essex Anglican Church; one for the Charismatic Essex Anglican Church and one for the Essex Anglican Church in Exile?

That’s why I’m a Baptist, its farless confusing.

  4. Michelle says:

I was at that ordination service this afternoon too – well how about that then!

  5. Michelle says:

I don’t suppose these Essex boys do much barrying around town with their windows wound down and music blaring :D
    But you never know…!

  6. Karin says:

Hope you’ve met the deadline. Don’t faff, too much, I’m sure it’s OK.

  7. Larry Day says:

lots of people are very excited about your book Dave. I agree about there being no need for faffing.

Well done for combining publishing a book and getting married.

  8. mae says:

Hi Dave bit of a giveaway really, but the one without a hat is not an Essex bishop at all – he’s the bishop’s chaplain (well somebody had to put you right) – but to judge by the look on the bishops’ faces they’re not sure who he is either.

  9. Dave says:

Thanks for the kind comments on this thread. The deadline was met but I haven’t really recovered yet (If you are reading this and I am supposed to be doing work for you I am working on it at full pelt)

Tired and Emotional: The situation in Essex is that there is one Bishop who rules all of it and then three underbishops who rule three areas.

Michelle – we were at the ordination that started in the morning but finished in the afternoon. I don’t know whether you were at that one or the one that started in the afternoon.

Mae: Aha. My mistake. The imported bishop must have wandered off somewhere. Apologies to the chaplain if you are reading this.

  10. Michelle says:

I was at the one that started in the afternoon… and it was boiling! (I was being a ‘sponsoring clergy’ so was all robed up and melting!)
