Have the BNP been banned by Google?

I’m not sure, but it looks like the British National Party have had their Google Adsense account suspended following our little Cartoon Blog campaign.

At the beginning of May I posted ‘Should the BNP be allowed to show Google adverts?‘, where I wrote a letter to Google Adsense saying that the BNP should not be allowed to participate in the Google Adsense programme on their blog (http://chairmanscolumn.blogspot.com) because their racist viewpoints contravene the Adsense terms and conditions. I pointed out some extracts from the BNP manifesto which I believe demonstrate clearly the BNP’s racist stance. I have included the text of my letter below the fold.

It now looks as if the account is suspended. I’m not sure how it’s possible to check to be 100% certain, but it appears that Google have banned the BNP from Adsense. The code is still in place on the blog, but the adverts aren’t showing up. In Firefox there is just a blank space, whilst in Internet Explorer an error message is shown. I cannot see any reason for the ads not to be showing unless Google had decided that the BNP violate their terms and conditions. I can’t see any other reason for the account to have been terminated either.

The line in the BNP blog code with the adsense code linking to their ID number is google_ad_client=”ca-pub-7694325752431178″, just in case that enables any geeks to do some detective work.

The error mesage on the Google Ad slot is:

This is the original letter to Google Adsense:

Dear Google Adsense,

In your terms and conditions for the Adsense programme you state:

“Site may not include:
Violence, racial intolerance, or advocate against any individual, group, or organsation”

This site is run by the British National Party in the UK and includes Adsense advertisements:

http://chairmanscolumn.blogspot.com/

The British National Party promote a number of policies that are racist, ie ‘Discrimination or prejudice based on race’.

For example, to take just a few short extracts from this page of their manifesto:

“5. We would abolish all departments, agencies, or other units of government whose sole and specific purpose is to deal with ethnic issues, grievances, or crimes.”

“6. We would abolish all laws against racial discrimination in employment and the government bodies associated with enforcing them.”

“10. A massively-funded and permanent programme, using and doubling Britain’s current foreign aid budget, will aim to reduce, by voluntary resettlement to their lands of ethnic origin, the proportion of ethnic minorities living in Britain, for as long as the majority of the electorate are willing to fund such expenditure.”

“11. While accepting the right of law-abiding minorities, in our country because they or their ancestors came here legally, to remain here and to enjoy the full protection of the law against any form of harassment or hostility, we will also seek to emphasise the importance of the prior status of the aboriginal people. This would be a national extension of the ‘Sons and Daughters’ policy in priority on housing and school places lists which BNP councils seek to implement at local level.”

I do not believe that most of your advertisers would like to be associated with this kind of organisation. I suspect many Adsense publishers, of whom I am one, would not want to have such an organisation among their fellow publishers. I would ask you therefore to consider whether the British National Party should continue to be allowed to show your adverts in this way.

Yours,

Dave Walker

The BNP website can be accessed through Google search engine. No problems.
But what problems do you have with free speech, freedom of association and thought? Wouldn’t you be better off by engaging with the BNP and show them (and the rest of your readers) how misguided they are?

  2. Dave says:

    Alan,

In this post I’m referring to Google Adsense, not Google search. I have no problems with free speech. I have problems with people with racist views making money from posting those views on the internet.

I believe my quotes from their manifesto show that they are misguided.

    Britblog Roundup # 68

Now that we’re getting into golf scores for the Britblog Roundup we have one that’s a little below par in terms of the number of entries. Must be something to do with spring and young men’s fancies. You can make

hey Dave, the BNP are a legal political group, what gives you the right, because they dont follow your political viewpoint, that they should have there advertisements stopped.I believe YOU are acting like the Fascist. The majority of British people agree with their views, but you see fit to have them banned. You are certainly acting the Fascist with your accusations, you sir I believe are the racist.

  5. Dave says:

I’m not attempting to ‘ban the BNP’. I believe they have a right to their views, as distasteful as I find them. I believe they don’t have the right to make money via Google Adsense, simple as that. And it appears that Google agree.

As for ‘The majority of British people agree with their views’, that is nonsense, and you know it.

  6. Alan says:

I have lots of problems understanding why Iqbal Sacranie(?) can be hallowed as a staunch spokesman and wonderful leader for the Muslim community in Britain and Nick Griffen is castegated for trying to be a spokesman and leader for the “British” people in Britain?
Both trying to do the same thing for their own people. One a ‘nice’ man the other a racist thug?
    What am I missing?

  7. Sunny says:

    Nice one!

  8. Rob says:

Frankly, I’ve seen better come-backs in a junior school playground. “We’re not racists, so – er – you are! Ner!”.

Guys, try and see if you can follow a logical argument.

    1) BNP gains revenue fron using Google adsense
    2) Dave does too
    3) Adsense is not the same thing as Google websearch
    3) Adsense has certain rules about the type of websites that are allowed to use its services
    4) Dave complies with these rules
    5) BNP does not comply with the Adsense rules
    6) Dave can therefore hapily use the Adsense service on his site
    7) BNP cannot use adsense, and once this was pointed out to Google, it seems that they agree.
    8) Dve is not a racist, so – er – the BNP are!

  9. Dave says:

    Thanks Rob,

To the poster called ‘Bob’ – if you give me a genuine e-mail address I’ll post your comment.

Has any critic of the BNP actualy taken the time to seriously study their Manifesto ? You will find that there are numerous organisations in the UK, particular extermist Muslim sites that are openly racist and few appear to care, nor do critics of the BNP whom hypocritically condem racism utter a word of contemt against these people.

  12. Paul says:

Can I just point out that Paul (I) is (am) not paul. I can spell.
I do however agree that racism is racism is racism. The trouble is I think I find in this post and a few others the underlying tendency to apply the following stereotype:
    I/we are just normal.
You are a bit prejudiced or hypocritical.
They are racists. Or just misunderstood. (Depending on what colour they are.)

  13. paul says:

Paul, I am dyslexic and this post proberbly takes me 4 times longer to type than it does you. But why am I hypocritical? I am not a racist I do not have anyhting against the colour of a persons skin. I just dont like alien cultures eroding my culture. Otherwise we fought in 2 world wars for nothing.

  14. Paul says:

I apologise for the rude comment about spelling. But not for being suspicious of anyone who starts any kind of justification for the BNP, whose policies and practices are racist. Full stop.

  15. paul says:

You sound like rational person.I am used to the piss taken out of my inability to instinctivly focos on the writtenn word, so no offence taken, I will try my best on this post.I too was once suspicious of ther BNP, untill I first studied their Manifesto then spoke to a local activist.

It depends on your persective. I feel that the indiginious population of this country are discriminated against becuase they are “Anglo Saxon” white.I will not bore you with statistics but if you have ever have time key in to BNP TV online you will understand my direction and see that the BNP propaganda is all backed up.I fear Sharia Muslim law will dominate the UK because by 2040 the majority of births in this country wil be Muslim and by 2050 the majority of the population will be Muslm, which will obviously include the goverment. Sharia is becoming more and more dominant throughout the Muslim world. Feasably as in many other Muslim countries religious police will then patrol UK streets and our grandchildren could be forced into wearing burkhas. 1,000 years of culture could be eliminated in 40 plus years. Food for thought. God Bless
