Da Vinci code

[Update: This cartoon has now been added to We Blog Cartoons and can be freely reproduced on your blog.]

Who am I kidding? I’ll be there queuing up to see the film with the rest of them. If like me you are largely ignorant you may find some of these links helpful:

Has the church been engaged in a cover-up for the past 2,000 years? asks rejesus.

The Church of England website has responses to ten frequently asked questions, and more.

Ruth Gledhill has been to see the film.

Christianity Magazine has The Da Vinci Opportunity by Steve Hollinghurst.

Andii links to a ‘bluffer’s guide’ taken from the Dallas Morning News site and republished on Religion News Blog:

If you have been metaphorically living under a stone because every time you peek out you get embarrassed that you don’t know anything really about the Da Vinci code and now they’ve gone and released a film, here’s your chance to reintegrate into society. A bluffer’s guide.

(I don’t really like Religion News Blog as they take entire stories from other sites and republish them without a direct link to the article, but in this case it is the only way to see it as the Dallas Morning News site is unreliable, ie sometimes it asks you to become a member and sometimes it doesn’t.)

If you’re not exhausted yet, from the BBC news Magazine: The Da Vinci phobe’s guide.

And lastly and finally: The Da Vinci Code film – resources for Christians from the Church Army.

A grateful welcome back to those fluffy, well-nourished, film-loving sheep.

As to The Da Vinci Code, I enjoyed the book, especially the first part. I adore books on conspiracy theories and while reading them am thoroughly convinced of their truth, then put them down and may never think of them again.

The first book I read on the supposed lineage of European royalty, Holy Blood Holy Grail (title of American ed. of The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail), and many following it on various aspects of the basic premise, have, I think, been explained by some as part of a true conspiracy –that of European monarchists who would like to restore the former monarchies – Scotland, France etc. I believe there is supposedly a fascistic element in it too. It’s not my continent, except sentimentally, but can’t be of much help to the monarchist cause — a matter of taste.

I don’t know anyone, including myself, who has found the book or film anything but a good read or the controversy anything but interesting. If there are cases where it has been a challenge or an obstacle to one’s faith, I’d love to hear or read about it.

I’d agree with you about Religion News Blog, one of the things that I would want to encourage them to do would be to carry proper-link backs to the articles; I don’t like having to do a sometimes quite time-intensive search for the original because I have an ideal of citability.

Thanks for the link, incidently. It showed up in my traffic figures.
