Go by bicycle

I ordered a bicycle today. I’ll tell you more about it next week as the dinner is nearly ready.

In the meantime, take a look at Go by bicycle, which includes 15 good reasons to go places by bicycle as well as flyers you can print to spread the word.

If you see someone you know while riding, it’s easy to stop and say hello. Bicycles create public space, enhance street life and build a sense of community.

See also this page of bicycle blogs.

Update: The dinner is not quite ready yet. I have put the timer on for an extra 10 minutes. I still do not have time to tell you about the bicycle though as I have dilly-dallied about explaining about the dinner. Another time I will not mention the dinner and get right to the point and explain about the bicycle.

    It’s all lies lies lies!!!

Bicycle maintenance cost is not minimal – it is actually quite a bit (well in my experience). And with cars, you can book into Kwikfit, well, quickly, wheras with bikes you often have to wait days before someone can see it, the assumption being that you can do it yourself because it is easier. This leads to having three bikes in the shed getting rusty all needing things done to them and poor Tiffers spending many cold hours in the garden wrestling with spanners and the like. Grrrr.

And it doesn’t make you healthier. It just makes you better at riding bikes. I cycled many many miles a day for months last year, often 10 miles at a time without stopping up big nasty hills, and yet I still couldn’t run for 5 yards without having a heart attack!

Since I have had a car I have been happier, better at seeing people and more useful as a taxi service, not to mention a tiny weeny bit rounder.

And now that I drive I realise that although it feels safe to cycle – it isn’t!!! I have nearly killed many many a health freak.

Although it is better for the environment. And cheaper.

Feeling cycnical tonight. Go Dave! Enjoy bike! Enjoy supper!

Bicycles are good except for that bit about pushing the pedals round. Now if we could somehow build in a small engine . . . . Hmmmmmm.

I trust you’ll be studying this site very carefully before heading out on your sparkly new machine.
