Does anybody use Freecycle ?

The Middlesbrough Freecycle Group went from zero to 200+ members in no time last year, and continues to batter my email inbox on a daily basis. We got shot of two serviceable bicycles that we could not dispose of by conventional advertising. The interesting part is the way in which people put up their "wants" - and seem to get their heart's desires. I think I would be too embarrassed to do what they do. Ho Hum.

I FreeCycle!!! We found ourselves with an unwanted lawnmower, which has found itself a home via FreeCycle.

That said, I tend to be more interested in the Offered emails than the Wanted ones.

I freecycle. I joined the Manchester group last year, and within a week, was the proud owner of six pre-loved demijohns.

It's a great idea and there is a huge variety of stuff that passes through the network each day.

It's been said that it takes stuff away from charity shops: but then there are some things they can't handle (demijohns being but one example) and this fits a nice niche for stuff that would otherwise probably be thrown out.

I thought that was what eBay was for, only without the grace.

People have done such things on local Usenet groups for years, but perhaps not on the same scale.

No, but one of my friend taught me to go looking for furniture on curbsides on rubbish collection days. Rich folks throw out the nicest things, and they're too lazy to take them to the Salvation Army or Goodwill or the Old Age Concern.
