Squidoo

During my lunchbreak today I made what is known as a ‘lens’ on a new site called Squidoo. It’s here if you want to see it. A ‘lens’, as far as I have gathered up to this point, is a webpage about some topic of interest to the person writing it. The idea is that people can search for things and it will all be very useful.

I’ve no idea whether Squidoo will turn out to be popular or interesting in the long term, but the reason I thought it worth investigating is the man behind it, Seth Godin, is one of my favourite writers on business and marketing related topics about which I have needed to learn a lot over the last year or so.

Commenters at Darren Rouse’s Problogger site have been trying it out too.

Your blog is very interesting, and your cartoons are very entertaining… You have a very funny style. Whenever you can ship to the US I’d like to buy some cards.

During lunch today, during which I enjoyed my daily nervous breakdown, I took a look at Squidoo, just to get my mind off things, and came across your lens. I wasn’t looking for it so first I thought, gee, that face looks familiar. Then I knew. Nice work. I would have to think more than twice before starting one myself.

But what I really want to know about is that free packet of mashed potatoes. Here in the US mashed potatoes are sold in markets in these categories: warm, ready to eat; chilled, ready to be heated at home and eaten; frozen; can’t think of other categories. So what was your category? Did you mean potato chips (crisps) which were mashed and therefore rather uneatable so they shouldn’t have charged you in any case. For some reason I need to know. Also, did that petrol station contain a mini mart?

Re mashed potato. Nefertiki - I will attempt to write in more depth shortly about this and also British petrol stations. There is much to say but the hour is late.

Aaagh! I was just browsing old posts and I find this one and clicked through and there’s a flippin’ squid! Have just spent my day writing a news story for kids about a giant squid (new arrival at the Natural History Museum)… I’m seeing squid before my eyes!
