GodBlogCon and why that is a rubbish name

In America they have been having a convention of Christian Bloggers called GodBlogCon. It sounds like people had a nice time. These things quite often are especially if there is good catering.

There have been calls for something similar in the UK from Richard and this blogger. It sounds OK, (depending on the catering) but really Greenbelt is already the place to go for mingling with bloggers blogging from a Christian sort of a viewpoint. There are seminars and panels and social gatherings and everything you could want.

I would like to start another one man campaign though seeing as my last one was so successful. Please can the phrase ‘GodBlog’ be consigned to the dustbin of rubbish titles? It makes us sound like freaks. ‘People blogging from a Christian sort of a viewpoint’ is much better and although it appears to take longer to say it need not do so if you practice a bit. I have got it down to a little over 2 seconds.

[Update: Other GodBlogCon news that has come in: Dean did a review, whilst Darren had some useful things to say about Christian blogs in general.]

I haven’t yet been to green belt its fantastic that there are bloggers to “mingle” with, sounds interesting. I have been dying to meet other Christians who have a passion for web ministry. Perhaps I will go the next time it is on. I can see what you mean by the title of the American convention, but it was probably used to attract Christian bloggers to go, it wasn’t really an open evangelistic event. A better name could be devised for a similar UK event. Any ideas? Liking the blog dude.

You know what – I think you’re right Dave.

  3. Kyle says:

    You have a convert!

  4. Dave says:

Hi Dan – thanks for popping in.

Richard / Kyle. Thank you for hopping on my (very small) bandwagon. Kyle – the change to your blog title means a lot.

By one of those bizarre little coincidences, I spent the weekend at a convention for “bloggers” opposed to the modernisation of the police force, called StopModPlodBlogCon. I remember thinking myself that it was a bit of a rubbish name, but didn’t say anything as I’m not really a full member of the community, having, to be honest, mixed feelings on the issue.

  6. Mean Dean says:

What a coincidence that you shoudl use the term rubbish when talking about the GodBlogCon … that’s exactly what my ‘man on the street’ subsisted on while she was covering the conference from behind the scenes!
