I also have two article on this. For my part, I'm very suspicious of Nestle, and don't believe for one second that they have workers' interests at heart.

I guess my views might be slightly different in some respects, I don’t see how a company can produce a fair trade product, surly a company either trades fairly or they don’t. to say hey look aren’t we good we pay some of our producers a fair wage is like a gun manufacturer saying hey look aren’t we good we also make hospital beds! You can read more of my thoughts onmebus!

It's great that the fair trade movement is now a market force that even Nestle have to reckon with! It'd be great if a load of Nestle consumers were to buy the Fairtrade brand, help some deserving farmers a load...

I don't like mass produced coffee, and my local roaster has Fairtrade, shade, grown organic coffee that wins prizes - what more could I want?

BTW it's thanks to their coffee that I'm not asleep ;)

I, for my part, am pleased -- It'll at the very least introduce people previously oblivous to fair trade to the fact that fair trade coffee exists. Of course, I still have v. conflicted feelings about this -- I'll be sticking to my local fair trade roasters --

Sophs - I'm happy that the fairtrade movement is big enough for Nestle to sit up and take notice and realise that they can both improve their image (which hopefully won't work) and to get more profits.

I'm also hoping that those on a Nestle boycott will boycott this, and also that people will buy from smaller places to help both small scale businesses in the UK and farmers else where.

I'm up in arms about the fact that this will improve nestles image whislt they still keep screwing the majority of their suppliers. As if one fairtrade product suddenly makes them ethical.

And I am asleep because I had a 2 hour lecture on marxism and leninism.

Excited Rainbow Girl - Yeah, i agree with Sophs. Except i'm asleep because I've been at work this morning and on a train for 5 hours this afternoon.
