Tour de France

I haven’t really been following the Tour de France this year – in fact I haven’t really followed it since Channel 4 stopped showing it and it became unavailable on the common or garden TV channels. And no, before you ask, Freeview hasn’t reached Essex yet.

I did however manage to catch some highlights in black and white late last night. What a splendid event the Tour de France is. It was I think the main inspiration for my own brief cycle racing career (ahem) about which I can talk happily if persuaded.

You can follow the Tour de France online via the official site, but probably more useful are blogs such at the TDFblog. I also came accross this picture (before) and this one (after) showing the perils of running alongside the riders in the mountain stages. Don’t do it people!

Another link worth looking at is geoff-thomas.com He’s the former Crystal Palace footballer who was diagnosed with leukaemia a couple of years ago and is in a team cycling the TdF route 3 days ahead of the actual Tour and raising money for Leukaemia Research. He has a blog on that site too.

I have to say, I can think of easier ways of raising money! But good on him – an amazing achievement.

I’ll bite. Tell us, Dave, about your illustrious cycling career. Should Lance be concerned? Do you have any cartoons on the topic?

(PS the porpoise arrived safely, thanks.)

    Thanks for that link Jack.

Ron thank you. Seeing as there is such great demand I will add it to my list of things to blog about.

Don’t hold your breath about Freeview allowing you to see the TDF. I got one of those there new-fangled digiboxes last week, specifically in order to watch Eurosport. But, when I’d got it home and plugged it in, Eurosport was not available. Apparently you need to pay £7.99 per month to get that (and a few other channels).

Bloomin’ waste of money. I took the box back and have missed the whole tour this year. And to add insult to injury, my dad is currently there watching the Pyrenees stages from the comfort of a road-side deckchair.

A roadside deckchair sounds good. I might set one up outside my house. Better than nothing.

I thought there were some sort of highlights on ITV2 which I think is a freeview one isn’t it? Unfortunately I only have an old black and white TV without the necessary gizmos as a money saving exercise. Maddie_C has a good TV at her house but the large town she lives in doesn’t yet have Freeview.

Consider persuasion to be thus applied.
