Coding, scanning and a great big hole

It’s been all go this weekend on the new site ready for the launch. Lots of tweaking templates and adding pages and all sorts of kerfuffle trying to make a scanner I don’t normally use do what was required of it.

After rather too much sitting in front of a computer screen I went outside and dug a great big hole. There was a large conifer type plant which we chopped down in Maddie_C’s garden a few weeks ago. After digging down what seemed to be rather a long way I eventually managed to get the stump and most of the roots out, leaving a great big hole which has since been filled in. So, now there is an empty border with nothing in it. Any ideas for what one should plant there would be welcomed if there are any horticulturally-aware readers reading. I’ve no idea which way it faces which I’m sure is the first question you were going to ask, but it gets the sun up until the afternoon, it has a large fence with ivy behind it and a patio area in front of it. Some colour would be good.

Hullo. Our resident horticultural expert suggests a hardy fuchsia – plants available here free! Depends if Maddie_C likes fuchsias! Or roses.

“An empty border with nothing in it” Two to the ladies I think….. and how do you know there’s ivy behind the fence? ATW

  3. Dave says:

Thank you Johann for the advice. And Mr A, I know what is behind the fence as when they built it they put it up backwards.

As a fellow sharing your namsesake I can see only one plausible option for you. A solid grow-up. Grow your own dope. That hole is asking for it.

I think you should go for a ceanathus (sp?) (blue flowers, this time of year) or a big hebe (purplish flowers, whenever they feel like it at several random times of year as far as I can tell) or a viburnum (white flowers, smell gorgeous, about now-ish as well). Eventually they become biggish shrubs and I like them a lot.
