I’ve got a bit of business-related design work to do and I need some inspiration. I’ve been sending the blog link to quite a few creative people who undertake design in one way or another. Any thoughts about where are you going for inspiration these days woyuld be much appreciated. Places, books, websites, magazines, anything else.
I noticed yesterday that Diamond Geezer went to the Design Museum as part of his ‘exploring London’ week. I’ve been talking about going there for a few months now, perhaps I’ll pop into town later and have a look.

It’s all slightly scary. I feel that there’s not much to see yet, that the cushions aren’t straight and there’s still bits on the carpet which the vacuum cleaner didn’t quite pick up.
But anyway, welcome to all visitors who have arrived because of one of my e-mails, a link from The Wibsite or a link from somewhere else. Please say hello in the comments. My intention is to post daily here from now on, so there should be plenty to see and look at if you keep coming back.

I am pleased to announce that, all being well, my new cartoon series will be appearing weekly in the Church Times from this Friday onwards. It is entitled ‘The Dave Walker Guide to the Church’ and is… well, what it says on the tin really.
If you want to see it you’ll need to buy the paper as the series is exclusive to the Church Times, for the time being at least. But don’t worry, there will be plenty of new material appearing here on the website too before too long.

Today is my first day as an officially self employed person.
I woke up determined to get going in an efficient and productive manner. I’ve been at Maddie_C’s house as it has been her Easter holiday but I was all set to return to my house this morning. So, I jumped into the van, turned the key and… nothing. Like a fool and an idiot I had left the parking light on for 3 days so nothing was happening. I summoned Maddie_C and we pushed the van back and forth to turn it around, discovering that a VW van really is quite a heavy beast when you have to push it. Fortunately with a slight incline it did jumpstart ok and I was able to be on my way without further ado.
I have put this post into a new ‘Essex Life’ category. I don’t know what other items will join it. Perhaps nothing, we shall see.

Barcelona was fantastic, the Trade Justice all-nighter was cold but very worthwhile I think. I’ve put my pictures here.

There’s been so much to do that I’m delaying the launch of the ‘post a day’ blogging service for another week. I’ve had deadlines to meet and am now away for a few days. Comments will be on ‘moderate’ for a short while.

Less than a week to go until the Wake up to Trade Justice overnight event in central London. Click the link to find out what it’s bout. If anyone reading is going to be there do let me know – e-mail dave(at)wibsite.com.

Today’s post was late because I tripped over the internet wire and broke it. Maddie_C had to go to Asda to get another one.

It is probably only me who loves the sound a beer bottle makes when it is held underwater in a bowl of washing up water and the air slowly escapes.
But I thought I’d mention it anyway. If I’m to be blatantly honest this is a test post to explore the ins and outs of posting entries at a future time.

Now, one of the marvellous wonders of technology is that you can do something called ‘subscribing’ to this blog. It is completely free and painless, and means that the posts I make and posts on lots of other sites you like will appear all together on one page without you having to look for them. There are a number of different ways of doing it, but one of the easiest is to use My Yahoo (ideal if you have a Yahoo or BT account) or My MSN (ideal if you have a hotmail or MSN Messenger account)
I will explain how to do it in both Yahoo and MSN. It really isn’t that difficult – give it a try!
In Yahoo:
Click on a ‘My Yahoo’ link to take you to your My Yahoo homepage.
Click on ‘add content’
On this page where it says ‘find content’ click ‘add RSS by URL’
Put this address into the box http://www.cartoonchurch.com/blog/wp-rss2.php
Click ‘add’ and links to the latest posts from the Cartoon Blog will appear on your ‘My Yahoo’ homepage.
In MSN:
Click on a ‘My MSN’ link to take you to your My MSN homepage.
Click on ‘add content’
It’s even easier now on MNS – put ‘cartoonchurch’ into the search box
Put a tick in the little box next to ‘The Cartoon Blog’ and links to the latest posts will appear on your ‘My MSN’ homepage.
You can now rearrange the layout (Delete the Stock Exchange, move the Cartoon Blog to the top) and add content from lots and lots of websites and blogs you like so that your My Yahoo or My MSN page looks just the way you want it and shows you lots of updated things you are interested in every time you click on it.

One of the great things about starting a business is ordering stationery and office supplies from a business catalogue company. I had looked forward to doing this for some time. Well, the day finally arrived yesterday, so I have an absurd number of pens and enough A4 paper to draw a cartoon a day for the best part of 7 years.
But… I have the wrong envelopes. And yes, I think it was me rather than the catalogue company.
I am an idiot and a fool, and will be writing unusually small business letters for the rest of my life.

Well, I’m ready to go at last. The new ‘cartoon blog’ is the first segment of my new project ‘CartoonChurch.com‘ (nothing to see there yet) which is due to launch in all its glory at the beginning of May. I’ll explain more about that shortly, but in the meantime, after weeks of arranging the furniture, tweaking the template and generally dilly dallying this blog is now live and active.
