The “they’ll be a bit cross or not notice” section is very relevant… I’ve lived at my current address for 15 years and still get a card for the previous occupants. It’s actually making me feel guilty now, but they’ve never left an address. So… Vic and Jean from Essex - Can you PLEASE phone Bob and Mary from Dorset? It’ll explain why they never sent you a card back…
(I enjoy your blog - I’m usually a Bah Humbug sort! Thanks!)

Niiice. I really like this one.

My sister-in-law actually tracks all this, year on year, on a spreadsheet.

I actually witnessed a conversation between her and my brother that went like this:

“Ok in 2003 we sent them a card and they sent us a card and a newsletter; then in 2004 we sent them a card and a newsletter*, but they sent us nothing…what do you want to do this year?”

Yep, that’s the spirit of Christmas right there, think I ;-)

    *shudder!

This sounds all too familiar. The, etiquette of Christmas card-sending, and how to avoid offending sensitive relatives… (hmm, that could be the title of a self-help book)

    Oh dear

I got one today from someone I hadn’t sent one to and it’s ironic that I was annoyed with THEM when they quite rightly should be annoyed with me! Weird isn’t it?!

  6. Chris Clark says:

I think it is important to make a profit on card numbers to massage the ego. e.g you send 60 cards and recieve 90.. a fifty percent profit. This is surely what Xmas is all about…:)

  7. Mary says:

I sent out my cards the first week of December. I cannot remember to whom I sent them. So, are the cards I’m now receiving actually from people who received one from me? Or are these all people to whom I now owe cards? I’m so confuuuused!

Cut out all the stress and worry, buy a pack of christmas cards and put them straight into the recycling bin, save pounds on all that postage.
